Thanks I needed a good laugh!!!! But the answer is....it was leaking!

The first one leaked after three weeks of ownership. The second one lasted almost two years.
I ride rain of shine....I think when it is really hot and then splashed with water the Bakelite cracks. It is just a theory I am working with....only the shadow knows for sure.
