Posts: 284 mansfield, MA United States | I am thinking of moving up to a 2011 VV. I have a 2008 Victory vision tour premium (black) with just under 40K Miles on it. I do a lot of highway miles and they rack up fast. The bike is just under 2 years old and it has another year on the warranty. I love the new visions. Now my question is what do you think I could get for my bike Trade in / selling outright. It has trunk rack stage 1 pipes fuel controller lowers and Ipod cable. I know I will take a big hit! Good move or bad move what do you think? I will put another 20k miles on if I keep it another year so that will affect what I get for it next year if I hold on for the 2012?s. I?m so confused!!!! |

| I think the book value on an 08 is around $13,000. There was a thread started awhile back that listed values. |

I think I would wait until about May 2011 before I would make that decision. Plenty of time to hear about how much better the '11s are. Personally I don't think the changes in the tranny are worth what it would cost you right now in a trade-in deal. It would be terrible to make the trade, absorb the loss, and then realize you had just as good a bike to start with. Or worse find out say in June of 2011 that they are issuing a recall for a problem with the new transmissions. As it stands right now you have a good reliable bike in hand and probably don't owe a whole lot more in payments. Just my thoughts. |

you made a good point. because as this is the later model vision it is a FIRST YEAR model for the new "upgrades" remember all the 08s that had the gear indictator problem and the other little qurks? This new and improved transmission will be a first year model. what kinda "fixs" will it need? i like the 2011s as well. but id really like to see one with some miles on it first. |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | I hate this kind of question as no one can make your mind for you. The value to things are up to the buyer and seller. A straight anwer to your question is YES, get a new Vision, because you want to. I have never bought anything with resale value in mind, but if that is what you look at, then sell the bike now, 40,000 is a lot of miles for an '08 MOTORCYCLE. If you don't, just keep it and wear it out, it won't go up in value as you ride it.
I was the last person that would go and buy first model anything, and rarely do I buy new, so I broke a few "rules" in getting the Vision, but I have ZERO regrets in any regards. I guess the good point is that you get good feedback by asking a question like this, and there has been some good, but I refrain in doing so, as it only confusions me more. When this Vision disappears from under me because I wore it out, I'll hop on another one, until then, this whole topic hurts my head. |

So get what makes you feel good, just because you deserve it. If you put a lot of logic behind having a these bikes, let alone one that costs like these...you wouldn't have in the first place. Hope you get! |

Posts: 284 mansfield, MA United States | Demo truck will be in town Aug 14th &15th. Then 17th & 18th and my bike is laid up at another dealer for the past week and a half. I just got a call saying the part ( a stator) is back ordered and will not be in for another week and a half. I am leaving for the National VMC rally tomorrow ( with no bike . I lost 10 weeks last year with it in the shop. This is all reasons for a new bike. lol then again right about now im thinking Harley but then I would loss 20 weeks with it in the shop.) I have just had some bad luck. sorry for venting lol

| I would wait. 1 year left on the warranty don't mean crap. If you have the bike paid off take half of what your new payment would be and pack it away for your deposit/accessories toward the new bike. Once they have been out for 6 months and you still want one I am sure you will get a good deal on one sitting in a showroom somewhere. Like you say, the trade in value will be the kicker.
Good luck in your decision. |

Posts: 1308 Sand Rock, AL United States | I am planning on a Vision purchase and i am strategically waiting until July of 2011 to have somethings paid off and to see if the Vision will be revised with larger side bags (I know that's a huge debate in another thread) . I personally wouldn't trade my 08 for a 2011. There doesn't seem to be that much difference to me. This is just my humble opinion. Btw, I plan on purchasing a Vision within the next year or two whether they are revised with larger side bags are not. It's my favorite motorcycle. |

Posts: 284 mansfield, MA United States | Thank Redrider I think your right. I was venting yesterday because I was told I was going to loss the bike for the best 4 weeks of the year (again). The bike isn?t even 2 years old and im going on 14 weeks total in the shop. And it?s the best weather we have up here in New England. I wish they had a free rental program for when your bike is in the shop for a week or more. Victory really needs to get with the program on the back orders. 3 weeks to get a stator is uncalled for. They have pulled my engine a couple times for other problems and. My local dealers have bent over backwoulds for me but I just have a bad bike. And the whole ?Victory needs to approve the repair? and ?another back ordered part? is driving me up the wall. I put a lot of miles on the bike ( 40K in less then 2 years ) I need something I can trust and can be fixed if it brakes down. I know this is not doing much for my re sale lol |
