There is no oil issues, you can do it anytime. Don't do it when the motor is hot.

I've got the ones that say MADE IN THE USA. Very well made. Left side is very easy. Right side will be easier if you unbolt the bracket holding the floorboard and brake. You can do it without lowering the floorboard, but clearance is tight. The original right side cover is held on with two-sided tape - just pry it off. No oil leakage.

Istall is a snap on the left, pull the bolts, swap 'em, and put the bolts bakc. Breaking the adhesive on the right side is a bit of a pita though. Googone and some 15lb or so microbraid (spiderwire) fishing line helps remove it fatster. Get some Googone in behind the cover from dripping it back there from the top (therei s a small gap), and then getting the line behind it, rake it left and right with some downward pressure, like flossing, and the line will break the bond. The cleaning before reinstalling is very important. Just did mine and added these.

Your cover look great!!!
But the cad allen bolts don't! So here is an easy fix for you. Go to harley davidson and ask the prats guys for the allen caps that fit allen bolts you want the ones for the V-ROD cause they use metric bolts now just tap them on and you get a great look.
By the way I raced a v rod yesterday with my vision and he all most didn't get away. He had drag pipes on the v rod with no baffles so a good 15 horse lost on his motor. You should have seen the look on his face when he didn't leave me in the dust. I wish I would of had cams in the vision.

Thanks John, but what do you mean by 'cad' allen bolts? The ones shown are chrome flathead allen machine screws that I had here and used on my bike (the Ness Jackpot in the pics). The ones going out with the parts will be mirror polished SS so the potential for cracking the chrome and subsequen rust within the allen wrench slot is eliminated. As for bolt covers and caps, that's always something at the option of the rider. THe other cool thing I'll be doing with mine personally is putting the polished billet gas cap spikes I sell on them, and all the other primary case bolts. The only reason they're not on yet isd I've been thinking of anodizing them blue or purple, or mix of both to match the paint. Also putting on a candy blue over metallic silver pulley, so I'm thinking blue. Who knows, we'll see soon enough.

Why do others call your covers covers when they are derby cover and ignition cover or old school points cover.

Well John, not all anodizing is equal. In many instances you're right, some poorly done or cheap chemical anodizing will fade fast. There made to look good to get you to buy them, but then they turn to crap. Typically parts are anodized directly after machining without being touched other than oil removal from machining. This leaves a course surface prone to absorbing sunlight due to no reflective properties. We go beyond that in our process, thinking best finish possible first, final price second. The chrome/anodizing shop I use is a secret jewel in the industry, not known by many, and does the best job possible, with the best materials and chemicals. FYI, when he first offered it to me I said what you said, and he led me outside to see samples of his anodizing in a full exposure location to sun and rain all day where he had dated samples of various colors. I was impressed and sold to say the least. Another thing we do differently is all the parts are fully sanded out and polished to a mirror finish before we anodize, and this gloss surface reflects the light thereby reducing the absorbed light. Ask anyone that has my black wedges about the anodizing work we give. That's our best testament.    

As for the covers, Victorys don't have points, so they can't have a points cover. In most Vic circles they don't use H-D labels. And since a derby cover is a clutch cover, that one's the toss of a coin.

I have a set of Ness finned covers and was going to put them on but once I had the the old covers off I covered them with carbon fiber film left over from the dash covering to see what they might look like-I kind of like 'em and they do tie it all together. I'll be leaving it like this for a while and see if it grows on me-Brian

But that brings up a question, I assume that the 3M VHB tape needs to be applied at something higher that the current 12 degrees here in Maine ! Am I correct in assuming that it needs to be at least 50 degrees for the application and cure time? I can at least do the clutch side and imagine 'til it gets warmer- a lot warmer !!

Hi Ron,
You need 70 degrees and leave it overnight for it to cure right. You can't just warm it up, install it, and then leave it or there is an ever so lsight chance the bond will be compromised. I've been to Maine a few times and fully understand your plight. I've been there from doing LL Beans to picking up lobster and driving straight back to NY in a van with buddies and a keg (the good old days!), all the way to canoeing 180 miles of the Alagash not to mention a couple of hunting trips up into the indian territoires just below Baxter State Park, Molunkus to be exact. Beautiful state, and man, do you guys have big friggin' whitetails up there! Stay warm 'til Spring brother!

Just a little tid bit. Ever since I have have been replacing left side (taped) cover, Use a heat gun and heat it up. In most cases customers don't want the old ones. Heat it up and it will actually fall off. It only takes me about 5 min. to change both covers. Just a quick trick I use.
