I have a 08 VV with 16,000 miles on it. I can no longer hear my fuel pump power up when i turn the key on. The bile runs perfectly should i be concerned? i'm getting ready for a 5,000 trip.

I guess quiet is what you want. Mine got progressively louder to where it sounded like a banchee, then it went on me at the most inconvenient time. I don't ever recall mine getting quieter at anytime, nor was there a warning sign before failure. Have your pressure checked regularly to make sure it is at the level, the book tells you how and it is simple, too simple.

First thing I did was check the pressure and it?s good. The darn thing is so quite I have to put my ear down by the console to hear it when it powers up.

BlackJack, keep an ear out around 40,000 miles for noise, loud noise, that's when mine showed up. Some folks think it's from the alcohol type gas. Some folks once in a while add Mystery Oil to the gas. I do know the part number for the 08 is different than the 09 and 10, so the new pumps may have a change to them that is better.

I don't know if this helps, but VT I think your observation has merit. The way mine would run it was like it was cavatating from a hole in the pump diaphram, now, I personally don't know the inside working though I do have my old pump as a trophy. I might disect it to see what may have fail, other than something electronic. But that being so, the alcohol could cause the early failure.
