Posts: 266 Hartland, , WI | I haven't done the long trip....YET...but road for over 7 hours straight the other day (just getting off to gas & pee) ...85 degrees and humid. Got the lower deflectors now...love them but as comfortable as the seat is my butt get swetty and it's not soar as much as it seems to...I don't know, burn a little.
Feels almost like....trying to slide down your leather sofa bare assed in Florida during the summer.
So I see those Sheep skin (?) covers over seats...or the hard wood beads...do those work?
Thoughts? |

Posts: 803 Perry Hall, MD | I use moisture wicking underwear and the beaded seat cover. Actually making a new one now as my son has adopted my first. The beads will also lift you off of the seat cover when it gets wet. One issue is that you have to remove it if it's cold enough to use the heater. |

...premium motorcycles should come with real leather and not cheap vinyl...
I used a shammy under my butt on my trip out west and it worked very well. |

Now that's cool & slick. Royal Purple is formulated here in the Houston area, I'll have to give my salesman a call and ask him for a discount on this stuff. |

| Take your wallet out of your back pocket. Go to a sporting goods store and buy Under Armor Underwear. They are expensive, but work great on a bike. |

Most of my ride days are in heat over 100F, I need something to cut down on butt-sweat.

Posts: 395 Moravia, IA | Im with lennyb.....I bought the $9 beaded car seat cover at WalMart. Then I set it on the seat....measured it.....cut the end off and re-tied it. Fits PERFECT on the Vision. I then used 99 cents worth of spray paint and made it black. I used that on a 7 day ride across the southwest US.....and then again on a 33 1/2 hour Iron Butt certified run. Works phenomenal....cheap and effective. Highly recommended. |

Posts: 825 , WI | This is what I learned about seats and long distance riding on the last trip. The rest of the story- Long distant riding and the dreaded "monkey butt"! A description of "monkey butt" from the Anti-Monkey Butt website. "It's a term used by motorcycle riders to describe the soreness, itching and redness that occurs when you ride and sweat on a motorcycle for hours." I had heard the term before but I never had a problem with it before, until this last 16 day trip. On day one I was riding from Wisconsin to South Dakota. This would be a 550 mile trip with temps in the low 80's I was surprised at how uncomfortable I was on this first day of what was going to be a very long trip. I was sliding from side to side of the seat trying to get some airflow to cool off. When I got to the motel I blamed it on my new riding gear. The next day I was wearing my old gear and I had the same problem. This was not good. I still had a long way to go. I knew a sheepskin cover or beads might fix this problem but I didn't have time to look for one. As I rode I was trying figure out what was wrong. Why did the seat feel so warm? Was it the ballast under the seat from my new HID headlight? I would be heading west soon and the weather would be a lot warmer and that could end the ride. While riding on day four of the 48 Plus I put my hand down by the front of the seat to see if there was any airflow and all I could feel was a lot of heat coming off of the engine and it seemed to be going under the seat. Could the heat coming off the engine be heating the seat pan? I really didn't think so but the seat pan did feel hot. Hmmmmm At the end of day five in Kansas I couldn't take it anymore and pulled the side covers off and took a towel and filled the gap between the seat and frame. I didn't put anything under the seat, I just filled the gap along the edge of the seat. I still had five more days of riding to get to Alaska and then a four day trip to get home again. The next day I would be riding across New Mexico and Arizona. I wasn't looking forward to it. The problem was gone. Completely gone! I was riding more miles in higher temps (low 100's) and no more hot seat. I was amazed that sealing the gap between the seat and frame had fixed the problem. The ride was fun again!! Now I have a Vision and I think it has the same problem so a winter project was - Remove the seat and insulate the bottom with a reflective backed insulation. I'm not sure if it's going to work but I think it's worth trying. The gap - The fix - The towel saved the ride. The Vision seat - Will be tested next summer. |

| I have done many 17 and some 19 hour days and many back to back days. My '99, '03 and my Vision have always had the stock seats. I tried a couple of others and nothing works as good as stock seat for me. I was getting a little pain in my left thigh after 750 miles on my Vision until I put the Tri-City highway "floorboards" on. They sure aren't pegs.

Posts: 1229 Rancho Cucamonga, CA | Very observant. I was having a problem with my right leg getting burned on the engine when I stretched out onto my heel blades, so I had a local leatherworker make these up for me. They cost about $50. Problem solved- no more heat on my legs or crotch.
