I find it amazing that it has only been 30 years since the Ixtoc I oil spill in the Bay of Campeche and almost no one remembers it at all. This well flowed from June 3, 1979 ? March 23, 1980 and spilled the same amount of oil that Deep Horizon has to date. Ixtoc I is listed as the fourth largest spill in history.
It took 8 months and Red Adairs team to get this under control and it was only in about 200 feet of water.
I guess I remember it since I was living on the South Texas coast at the time watching the oil and tar roll on shore.
