| Hello All
Was riding the other day and somehow picked up a nail in my back tire. I took it to the local victory dealer to see if they could plug it. They told me that I would have to change out the tire because of liability issues. All dealers and repair shops don't want to take the chance of getting sued. The new tire cost me 260.00 $ plus 180 $ labor. That nail cost me 440.00 $. This is just a little heads up to all to be careful around construction zones or anywhere else while riding. I only had 7700 miles on the tire and one nail ruined my day. |

Posts: 208 Edmonton Alberta, Canada | Well just back from North rim, On road back front tire was done and rear really close. So I stopped in at a Victory dealer in Utah, 2 hours latter and just over $600.00, I drove out with new front, new rear, installed! Last spring here in the North I had to find my own tire as dealer did not have stock, and then 3 hours labor to install! I know where my trips will get planned for tire changes! |

Posts: 156 dinwiddie, va | we don't patch tires anymore for liability issues. We had people come back after 2500 miles on the tire, and the patch might have worn or produced a leak. They wanted us to foot the bill to do it again. About the 3rd go around like that, we canned the patches. We have a tire shop down the street now that will patch them for us. Wet tell the customer we will take it off and take them down the street to patch. Gets us out of the patching liability. And 3 hours labor is very steep for front and rear tires. It should be around 2 hours for removal , mount/balance, and installation..... Some dealers like to catch a desperate rider and screw him. Not quite how we do it in my neck of the woods! |

Posts: 550 Tacoma, WA | It is no different than any motorcycle tire. plug it yourself next time! Unless it is more than a nail in the tread, a plug will work fine until the tread wears out! Changing a tire for a nail hole is just a way for a dealership to make extra money. I carry a plug kit and compressor just for this purpose.-----Metalguy |

Posts: 639 Tri Cities, WA | Thanks nightvision for the the dealer side of it. Makes us owners understand a little more why things happen the way they do. I too think the first guy got overcharged a tad. I got both front and rear Elite 3 installed for around $445.00 last month.

Posts: 562 SC, Bluffton | I am currently riding on 4 plugs (tar rope type) on my Kawasaki VN2000. The first happened right with a new rear tire almost 2 years ago. I have maybe 7,000 since then. I trust tar ropes, obviously.

Posts: 48 Simpsonville, SC | My rear tire picked up a 3 inch long torx bit, right through the thread. Tire only has 3800 miles on it and it was $275 for a new one installed. I had the dealer take it off, I patched it and remounted it. Dealer charged for his labor ~ $60. BTW, they disconnect the lower part of the shock so the swingarm can drop down and avoid having to remove the bags , etc. It was pretty quick. |

| I picked up a couple roofing nails in my rear sidewall. The local dealer charged me 400.00 for a new tire. I realize it couldn't be plugged but thats the last of my money he's going to see. |

Posts: 3773 Pittsburgh, PA | i dont know any motorcycle shop in my area that will plug a tire. they will always say replace it.. No matter what make and model motorcycle or tire you have.. never go to a motorcycle shop to try and have a tire plug. buy a plug kit and do it yourself.. its not hard. |

Posts: 133 , AR United States | My second rear tire started leaking down with 3000 miles on it. I went back to the dealership where I bought my bike and tires, hoping the valvestem or bead seal was leaking. But they found the nail in the tire. They said they do not patch or plug mc tires ever. I asked if there were any road hazard warranty on the tire. They called Victory and Tucker Rocky and came up with nothing. The mech said he knew a shop that would look at it, so I rode down to Al's Cycle Center to hear what they said. The guy at Al's looked at it and said no, the puncture was in a bad place in the tread, about halfway between center and the sidewall. If it had been in the center of the tread he would have repaired it. Apparently there is a possibility of the casing splitting apart at the puncture if it's not in the center. He quoted me a price for a tire that was about the same as the Victory dealer's and could have one in a couple days, I told him no thanks, my dealer had one in stock. They sold me a new tire for the 'sale price' after the sale had ended, about $210, I don't remember how much the labor was. |

Posts: 215 orrick, mo | I carry the rope type plugs and a compressor on trips. I just put a new front on and i put Ride-on in so hopefully i won't need to carry the plugs and compressor after I replace the rear which will be real soon.
I can't wait to get all the extra space back inside the saddlebags. |

I get a puncture on a motorcycle tire, I get a new tire, period. |
