Let's hear from everyone, especially if you don't have a problem with backfiring or popping.

put myself down for no with aftermarket. I have the Cycle Dragon pipes. Mellow quiet idle, nice growl on accel and decel. I would like louder but will not tolerate pops. So, Cycle Dragons are for me.

Stage 1 Level 2. I have the occasional backfire. The Vision is teaching me a better way to control the throttle. When shifting I do not roll the throttle all the way off and I do not let the engine go below 1800 rpm.

At 1700 rpm on a closed throttle the Freedom 106 turns off the fuel to the cylinders using the factory maps. If you do not believe me do this test.

Slowly speed up in second gear to 3000 rpm and then close the throttle. As the engine falls through 1700 rpm the engine will cough.....every time......as the computer turns off the fuel to the injectors. It will come back on at about 1200 rpm.

As long as I control the throttle I can do allot to prevent backfires.

Ride Safe

I have S1L1 exhaust. On occasion I roll off the throttle quickly on decel, a backfire or pop and the engine dies. I have been thinking about getting the new exhaust gaskets from Lloydz.. More control on the throttle and the problem does not surface..

Cheers!!

I have the Honkers, Lloyd's cam upgarde, Lloyd's IAC Valce and most recently Lloyd's new ECU.
Before the IAC Valve and the ECU I would backfire a lot. Now it is almost gone, I have a few small exhaust leaks.
I am confident that all backfiring will be gone when the exhaust leaks are gone.

No engine is supposed to backfire if the fuel curve is right and there are no exhaust leaks. I have a HD sportster and a HD RoadGlide besides my Vision. The XL is highly tuned: 88 cu in , 13 to 1 compression, 47mm mikuni carb, giant .625 lift cams with long duration AND open reverse cone megaphones, it makes 116 RWHP and it never back fires EVEN if I chop the throttle at 7500 rpm. Yeah you read that right 7500 rpm!! The RG has Stock headpipes with Sampson slip on mufflers, a baby cam ( SE-253 ) with a flash upgrade from HD and it popped alot on decelleartion, once I had it dyno tuned and the fuel curve was mapped from 1000 to 6250 no poppping, it did take several hours on the dyno though. Once I have the Vision upgraded down in Gainesville it will be dyno tuned.............

116 HP ?! Whoo boy! I bet it's fun to show those Big Twin guys what a Sporty can do.
I agree with you on the popping, there is no reason that ANY bike should pop/backfire. It's a fuck up from Victory that they are too cheap to fix. It isn't exhaust leaks, it just a crappy fuel delivery system that should be able to be corrected. My bike doesn't backfire at all when it's cold because the ECU tells it to run richer, once it warms up it starts popping, I can lessen the pops if I shift at a higher RPM, but I don't think I should have to do that. There is no other bike that has this problem. Victory screwed the pooch on this one....or maybe is wasn't the pooch.

Had Honkers with pops and went to S1L1 exhaust with the same amount of pops. IAV helped, but did not eliminate. It happens with me 5%-10% of the time.

S1L1 pipes and mapping, performance air filter and the Kevinx treatment with Lloyds cams, VFC, etc. Only an occasional pop here and there (maybe 2 or 3 times in an all day ride).

With all I've said about proper setup, I will have to admit my vision being completely stock has never backfired, I've had it 3 months and have 3600 miles on it.

From the day I had them install my S1L1 on my vision it has had popping issues. Which was from day one when I picked it up. I just gave up and have excepted it that Vic wont make any changes to there ECU map setup for us poor slobs who bought a new bike and then had the S1L1 put on... Stock visions no popping issues so if Vic sells these upgrades you would think they would have had a fix for it by now. It's only been two years since I have had my vision. DOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine pops all the time. If i had to put it to a ratio i would say 70 to 80% of the time..... I FREAKING HATE IT. I'm sure If i spent the $1065.00 with loydz and had the cam setup and fuel controller it would solve it all but damn it I dont have that much extra cash right now.

I agree, with Victory S1 L1/2 they ( Victory ) should have a proper fuel curve to eliminate any popping, you'd think they'd do the dyno work to cure this since they sell the equipment........

You don't really have to spend that much to clean up the majority of the issue. I would say your in the frequent catagory, so it really is an issue the dealer should help you out on. That may cost you some, but they need to help you. If they say they can't you can ask other dealers in the area to help. If they turn their nose up to up, then tell you story here and the dealer might get wacked, if you know what I mean. I've notice that dealers that sweat the small stuff and good dealers and will help you out. Also, Lloydz has the Idle Air Valve that is not high $ and easy enough to install and adjust. I have one and it does help, but an occasional backfire will happen. There are a lot of Vision Riders that have strived to get rid of this issue and part of it is the riding habits we have...I know it is with me. I know my throttle command will increase or decrease the pop, so this is part of my Vision riding experience, and it's all good. So I hope you can get some resolution to the issue up there in the great NW so you can get rid of that HATE feeling. Take care.

I spent the 1k on the Loyds equipment and it didn't help at all. The VFC and cam set up gives a great increase in HP and smiles, but doesn't lessen the popping any. I find that if I shift around 3k RPM it lessens the pops. Unless of course theres somebody watching me ride by, then its definately gonna POP!

I case you were thinking about it, I recommend the cams/VFC set up. It's a hoot to ride.

Same efforts, same results.  The cam upgrade is great, but did little to quiet the pops and backfires.  Lloyd suggested I NOT do the IAC mod and just look into exhaust leaks.  I had the shop try that with a small improvement initially, but it returned and sounds the same as always.  Pretty annoying.

thanks guys for all your input. It's really not the end of the world for me that my bike back fires. Sure it does it way to much IMO. Like I said always on upshift never when down shifting. I have rode this long with this issue and I love my vision very much but wish that Vic would offer us folks a free new map/installed to fix this since we already paid for the S1L1 map upgrade. Again I love every thing about victory and my bike just hate the popping thats it. Have a good & safe 4th of july everyone

S1L1 and mine pops occasionally, especially while cold/warming up. I have noticed that changing the way I throttle during shifts seems to help quite a bit.

if you've not checked the header gaskets, then that should be checked. I had the popping/stalling issue until the gaskets were replaced. Also the mating surface on my pipes where bad.
