Posts: 329 scotts valley, California | I may be just a bit naive, but I really, really want to think that people are not going to steal stuff off of my bike. I like to leave my jacket and helmet on the seat when I go into a store or restaurant. I'm pushing 70 (years old, not mph) and have seen the world go downhill quite a bit, but still people seem to avoid messing with a parked bike; like they may be afraid they will get the tar whipped out of them if they get caught. What is your take? To change the topic of a brand new thread just a bit, talking about pushing the mph, after Kevin did his thing to my '08VV I have played with double down shifting from sixth to fourth at about 65-70mph. The bike jumps to 95 like immediately. Thanks Kevin, you have helped keep me young! |

Posts: 271 Belding Michigan | I have been all over the US and several other countries with a MC and have never had anything Taken off my bike. However in my garage in Grand Rapids some years ago I left the door open with my GoldWing Vest laying on the seat complete with 10 years of patches and pins from rallies and poker runs and some one swiped it I am bummed to this day as many cannot be replaced this happened in 1985 but has not stopped me from leaving things on my bike. I would feel better leaving my stuff out at a biker bar than in a k-mart shopping center. Discretion... |

If you need my $20 gloves or $40 half helmet that bad go ahead and enjoy being the scumbag that you are.....just pray that no one ever sees you do it. |

Posts: 329 scotts valley, California | I guess you are right, va. Discretion is the name of the game. It is kind of ironic, and I agree with your conclusion, that it is safer to leave stuff out at a biker bar than at a church parking lot. It kind of comes down to a philosophy similar to defensive driving; be aware of what is going on all around you. |

| You better believe I lock my stuff up! Good thing I have a trunk and scorpio alarm. I have a J&M modified Nolan N103 helmet - they're not cheap. That helmet, left out, is prob too tempting a target to pass up. Vince. |

Posts: 523 seattle, wa | Nothing in my 20 years of street riding. I usually only leave my helmet on the bike, everything else is either in the saddlebags, or with me. I am always riding by myself and don't go to rallys or anything like that. I try to stay out of the ghettos also. |

OUCH!
I'm with you, I've never had anything stolen off my bike but I don't leave anything on the bike out in the open when I'm outside my rural area. When I was a kid someone did actually steal my motorbike but it was a Suzuki RM 500 dirt bike so it wasn't exactly hard to load and take. Eventually Karma kicked in and one of them ended up in a hospital after it got away from them on the trail. The Cops hammered him and his buddies. I've never had a problem on the bike that didn't take care of itself. The worst posession I could ever imagine having stolen is a firearm. I despise the idea of someone taking one out of the house and leaving it in their vehicle. The riding vest is a real bummer though. So many memories and pride tied to your "badges of merit"... |

Posts: 1158 Richmond, Virginia | This is kinda funny. Odd that you should bring this up. A couple weeks ago, I parked the bike and went to get some lunch. I left my jacket helmet and gloves on the bike. When I came back out with my bag of lunch (burger fries etc), the bag felt light so when i checked they had forgotten the fries). I set the bag down next to the bike along with my drink and walked back in to get my fries. When i came back
there was my jacket, helmet, gloves, drink and no burger. Im thinking WHO would freakin steal a mans lunch.......... then i saw this
cute little mutt dog under a tree across the parking lot just going after my double with cheese............... to date, thats the only thievery that I have had relating to the bike. (good thing the pup didnt have my keys huh) |

| Also depends on how many bikes are parked together. 1 alone might have different rules than 15. |

Posts: 506 Woodland Hills, CA | Before I started riding baggers, I regularly left my helmet and gloves on the bike, and sometimes even my jacket (depending on where I was), and nothing was ever stolen. However, now that I have a place to keep everything, I keep it all locked up. If it won't fit in the bags or trunk, it goes in with me. (Must be getting paranoid in my old age.) Personally, I just don't want to get caught out somewhere with no helmet to get home! |

| I personally have had nothing taken in over 30 years of riding, but on the way home from the Grand Canyon this past spring we met a couple from England. While we were site seeing in Holbrook, Az they were having breakfast. They had rented 2 Hardleys (Play on words) in California and were touring the west and had everything they owned stolen. Luckily they had their passports on them. |
