Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | Myself and all the Prince George, Va riders are taking a Lone Wolf Rally ride through Culpeper and onward to Winchester in honor of our fallen heros. All of the bike is lined up and the rider is ready to roll. I'll be leading and trailing and bearing the POW*MIA flag, less we forget!
Hug, Kiss, Thank a Veteran today! He/she has friends that are not forgotten! | |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | I just got home from my ride and as always it was great. Started the day a little later than originally planned but it couldn't had turned out better if I had planned that way. Made my way up RT522 which is one of the best bike routes in the Commonwealth. I arrived at the Culpeper National Cemetary just as they were finishing up a ceremony, but parking the bike was easy. I made my way to my uncle's grave and took a picture of the stone with the flag. I went back to my bike and waited for the cars to leave and fortunatetly the police was directing traffic so it moved out quickly. Many of us veterans exchanged gratitude and even those that had not served purposely and personaly thank me for my service. Very moving and well appreciated.
After I left there I made my way north of Culpeper of 522 and soon found myself behind about 10 sport bikers. I hate to get into details but they had no semblance of a group, more like a gagle which made it difficult to pass when I finally got tired of their haphazard way of riding. They weren't riding fast, just no formation, there was even a guy on a Harley in the middle of the bunch.
I made my way to the General Store on RT 522 just below Chester Gap and had a brown bottle Root Beer. Having no dollars and just some change, he took what I had though I know it didn't cover his charging cost. We chatted for a while as I have stopped in there before when he was open and is great to share some stories with Jack.
When I left there it started to pour down rain as I headed into Front Royal and the tempature dropped 20 degrees, and though I wasn't wearing my leathers, I did not stop to put on any snivel gear. Soon I was through the rain and the temp shot back up to 90 and I was drying out quickly. Since I was nearing the folks it was my duty to bring some shrimp so I stopped at the Front Royal Wal-Mart and found they had closed the seafood department permanetly. They had some small frozen shrimp but nothing suitable. So I headed on and stopped in Strasburg and got my bounty and continued on.
After spending some time with the folks and the sibs it was time to go. The sky had darkened and was raining fairly hard off in the distance in the direction I would leave. I gave a thought to go north and then through Winchester but finally opted to go back my usual route. Knowing it was going to rain fairly hard I donned my leathers and departed to the south. Shortly after I left the weather warning came on and cited the area I thought of going north through was under heavy quarter size hail and strong lightening and heavy winds. I was very thankful for deciding to take the usual way home. I had planned to go by I-66 to RT 17 to I-95 but when I got to I-81 the traffic was snarled going north so I took RT522 to home without a hitch.
Stopped in Mineral, Va and had me a real banana milkshake and then finished the ride home. Just a great day! Hope yours was just as pleasant.
