| My one year warranty expires in a few weeks. I do have the extended 5 year warranty, but wanted the bike looked over good before the originaial warranty expires. Only have 7,500 miles on bike. Any suggestions on what to have dealer look at??? Everything seems fine, except ignition key sometimes gets stuck and is difficult to go from "off" to "on" position. Thanks |

New Bohemia, VA | I'm the worlds biggest skeptic on extended warranty's and rarely get them. When I do, they run out without ever using them. Okay, the Vision, I got the 3-year extended warranty almost on the last day of the original one-year warranty. I tried to find ways to use it but to no avail. Everything was working perfect until the fuel pump went, and that is covered under the warranty. This one is the first one that I have had to use and it became worth it. Would I do again? Don't know, because the cost of the warranty was still greater than the fuel pump replacement. Just my take on it. |

Pittsburgh, PA | you might wanna think about getting the warranty.. I need 2 things replaced under warranty.. just havent found the time to do it.. 1) gear sensor 2) entire dash board! ($800 just for the part) green N light is burned out and its a sealed unit.. with the warranty, your damned if you do and damned if you dont..
you said you want them to check things and have them look at the bike to basically try and find something wrong? if nothing is wrong theres nothing too fix.. my gear sensor didnt start to acts up until over 9000 miles.. |

| THanks, I guess your right. If it ain't broke they can't fix it. I was just wondering if I should look closer at anything to make sure I don't miss a problem. I did get the free 5 year warranty when I bought the bike, so I should be golden. |

LaPorte,Tx. | ray 530, if you have been having the dealer service the bike so far, there is probably nothing to catch before the warranty expires. I got the extended warranty because the 08 was a first year bike. They have replaced the fuel pump under that warranty, but that's it.
On the sticking ingnition (key), I sometime use a silicon spray on the key, or a little WD-40 in the the key slot, don't take much, this helps alot.

seattle, wa | Graphite is what your supposed to use in a sticky lock. I put it in my car locks every now and then, can't find it right now. You can buy it any auto parts store, it comes in powder form. |

Pitt Meadows, BC Canada | My gas lid wouldn't open - so I couldn't put gas in the bike. But I managed to get to the dealer before running dry. The cable that releases the cap with a turn of the key - wasn't releasing... here is what my Service Manager said:
"The guy who did your cams (KevinX about 10 months earlier) bent the tab that holds the cable down - and eventually it broke so the key couldn't pull on the wire. I have to send out to Victory for a new piece to hold the cable".
Now, this sounded like a squack intended to mean " NO WARRANTY " - I have the extended 5 year thing that gives me my money back if I don't have ANY claims in the period of the warrantee - likely I wouldn't claim this anyway....
So, I have been driving around for 3 weeks with Velcro holding my gas lid almost shut - waiting to hear when my part has arrived.
AND - steaming about what a bad mechanic Kevin was - imagine a guy so inept he had to get in to the top of my gas tank and bend a tab when he was working on my cams underneath the gas holder. BAD KEVIN. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
Or REALLY BAD SERVICE MANAGER....

Northeast Ohio | Ray, weren't they giving away 5 yr warranties last year when you bought the bike? Either way, I would get it as it is just too early to tell on these bikes if there will be any long-term problems. I doubt there will be an issue with the motor or tranny, but the electronics might need some love in a few years. To me, miles only tell part of the story, time should also be factored into the equation. |

Like you are the first person that this has happened to....what a load of crap that service manager spewed. You are not the first person that has had the gas door cable break. I have seen it here before.
I would say prove it to me. What do you think happened?
How could someone break something he never touched!!!!!!!!!!!!! How could anyone break it? It just failed.

I have heard using most lubricants in locks , like WD40 are not good as they hold onto grit, sand, dust, etc.. It was suggested something like superlube or dri slide is better... |

Yes but you got to ride your ultimate bike a lot longer than us that waited and got the 5 year warranty and probably won't have to use it! LOL |

| Have a close look at the muffler end caps. The paint tends to begin lifting and chipping. If you hook a finger nail along the seam where the black meets the chrome there should not be any lifting. If there is get the warranty claim filed before the factory warranty expires as cosmetic repairs aren't covered under extended.
Check your headlite for minor cracking, you'll need to look closely and from multiple angles.
Check the windshield around all bolt holes for any spidering or minor cracking.
Any bag alignment issues also need addressed before the factory warranty expires.
This is going to sound stupid but take your bike and park it in the sun for 30 minutes so the vinyl on the seat gets hot and rises. Spray the seat with cold water and the vinyl will be sucked down tight to the seat top. Look for any impressions in the seat that should not be there. My factory seat had a piece of padding 8" wide by 3" missing right where I sat which accounded for some discomfort and was replaced under warranty.
Check all cosmetic items, chrome, paint, pad stitching, etc for any defects. Remember even little defects will get worse with time, so my advice is be EXTREMELY picky. |

Would suggest you start paying attention to sounds that you may have disregarded in the past. Minor chirping when you first start out (belt/pulley), knocking when going over a bump (trunk lid latches), and a new one I've developed with a click/ light knock as I come to a complete stop (guessing from the forks - FEEDBACK WELCOME). Check that radio has current software (some may suggest not doing it, but I had mine updated a month ago and all is good - as good as it gets with 08 radio).
My key issue seems to be with the key - if I turn the key around or use the spare key the issue is gone. |
