THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
In July 1996, Honda celebrated the production of the millionth motorcycle at its Marysville factory.Honda will stop making motorcycles in Ohio in 2009 — 30 years after the plant in Marysville became the Japanese company's first manufacturing operation in the United States.
The 450 employees who make motorcycles in Marysville will get other jobs with Honda in Ohio, where the automaker employs nearly 16,000.
Honda, which announced the move this morning, said it will build the motorcycles at a new plant in Kumamoto, Japan, which will open next year. Along with Marysville, an older plant in Japan will no longer make motorcycles.
"This was a complex decision tied to the important role that Honda in Ohio plays within our North American automobile operations," Akio Hamada, president and chief executive of Honda of America, said in a statement. "We will focus our associates' abilities on our goal to produce cars, light truck and engines in Ohio."
No decision has been made about what to do with the 330,000-square-foot motorcycle building, but Honda said it could use it for auto production.

Posts: 904 29 Palms California | I know what to do with that 330,00 square foot building! LARGEST MOTORCYCLE RALLEY IN THE WORLD, AND GRAND OPENING OF NEW VICTORY PLANT IN MAYSVILLE OHIO! Did we not know that the majority of profits go to Japan, and haven't we seen from our past, that if you are loyal to another country, your not loyal to the U.S.A and can jump ship when ever the (profits) move you? I wonder how this Isreal thing plays out? Last I checked, most Jewish Americans love America, thats why they live here. So, now Isreal has a country and needs people? They would love to have our Jewish Americans jump ship and go to Isreal. Problem is, most are loyal to our great U.S.A. If someone has loyalty to another country, feel free to move about the globe! The Japaneese never had a problem with it.

Posts: 904 29 Palms California | oops, got all politically high and to the right/left. I don't know, I just live here. The coffee's good, and the woman are better. Shalom my brothers. Although I'm not jewish, I am of hebrew decent. But then again, aren't we all? Unless your formed from a lightning bolt that hit a bowl of salt water soup, and split into a bunch of cells and became...well became. That sounds stupid just writting it. sorry, got off track again. Jiggety, jiggety. I guess the Politacally correct thing to say is: Awwww, poor laborers, honda no likey you no more. Maybe you shouldn't have excepted the Japanese...no, uhm...What a great oppurtunity for the labor force in Maysville Ohio to expand their horizons in another field of occupation! I'm sure the profits from more than 30 years of leeching of the community, that Honda will ensure you will be educated in another proffession....nah.. Dang Dude, sorry About the lay-offs.

I'm just wondering what all the Wingers now will say when we say, My baby is made in the USA. I'm sure they'll say so WAS mine, but not anymore.

| Buckeye, use missed the whole point. When Japan started building in America they built factories with young workers. Back in the day the average UAW worker was 48 and their average worker was age 23. Do the math. Now the older workers are at the higher medical cost end of the ladder and some will be ready to retire...... time to jump ship cause we can't low ball the prices..
Just the other day I was talking with an old high school buddy. The fabric company he works at is laying off workers because of Chinese competition (in the day it was Japanese). He said he had 35 years there and they would close before he got laid off. Then he talks about how he's thinking of buying Toyota TURD or is it TRD? Like so many Americans as long as it's not his job going overseas turn the blindeye...
Tell me how they saved money buying foreign then bitch about the trade deficit..
The other can of American that gets me is the one that says, Americans don't build quality that's why I buy foreign and I ask, "Aren't you an American worker?" How come it's always the other guy that does the low quality work?
