I have noticed a lot of exhaust/carbon residue on the ends of my exhaust pipes.

Dealer said that is normal and happens when engine is warming up.

Not sure about the dealers answer.

While riding, friends have said that a noticable amount of black smoke comes out of the exhaust when I roll on the gas.

Is this something that is normal or do I need to have the bike checked.

Thanks
Dwayne

A lot of factors, though it can be normal. Had a lot of black smoke when I had the exhaust leak and the bike would run rich. After correcting that problem there was less black smoke, however it would still blow smoke. It will do it especially after some city driving and then getting down on it when hitting the wide open road. Just have your friends take note when they see it the most. Just some more feedback to consider, though it can be completely normal.

varyder, sounds like he's doing some short shifting, I do the same when puttin around and my caps end up black as hell. Get out and bust on it to clear her out and she cleans right up.
So are we getting to know this bikes habits too well? Lol

I would have to agree with your dealer.  I have a fuel programmer on mine and have had it dyno tuned and there is residue on mine also.  My Rx for the problem involves a few shots of brake cleaner on a rag and wipe the exhaust tips down and you are 'good to go'.

I just painted the tips flat black. And yes it does need blowing out after the short shifts in town. ET

I have Level 1 Stage 2 Exhaust. All I do is clean the chrome on the outside of the pipes. I do not touch the back part or inside the pipes.

So it is mat black with carbon.....it still rides the same as clean tips.

Ride safe!
