Posts: 126 Meadow, Texas | When I first got my VV, I had a minor problem with the side bags just opening while I was riding down the road. No bumps, potholes just smooth road and they would just pop open. When I took them to my dealer for my initial oil change and check, I told him about this problem and he tried to make them pop open - nothing. So my fix was to make sure they were locked - seemed to resolve this problem.
Now, yesterday we (our riders group) went a on nice ride to Richmond and going down, they stayed shut. But riding back, they popped open three times. The road was smooth, nothing odd to report, they just popped open.
Now my question to all is - has this happened to anyone else?
When I close them I can't pop them open with me trying to force them. Very secure.
Just as I ride down the road, at random times, POP. Luckily for me another one of the riders shot up and told me about the side bag. This has happened with both sides but more on the left.
Doesn't cause any damage to the bike just very annoying.
Shoot me some ideas - maybe I've tried them - maybe I haven't, but even the craziest idea might be the culprits demise.
Thanks all,
Larry "O"

| This will occasionally happen to me but after I close them good they do not reopen. I too would like to know a fix. |

Locking seems to help as I've never had one pop open then, but also make sure they are closed good when I lock them. They can closed and appear latched giving a false sense they are secure.
Personally, I think they really pop open because in development the prototype could fly and that was the wings which would fold down at speed for lift off.... |

See my posting in the thread link below for the fix (be sure to click the link in that post to see the pics). My post is the 12th one down in the thread, but it's worth reading the whole thread for other bag lid issues.

Posts: 126 Meadow, Texas | Thanks to all. Guess I'm going to try to tighten up all the screws and bolts again. Then if that doesn't work - back to the dealer.
Glad I've got a great dealer because he told me if I had any problems let him know.
Thanks again.

| I saw the addition that was made to the sign i the Catlin Kustom bathroom with your name on it VaParadox. I was up there last week. I had to explain to my wife what it meant. She didn't know that was a screen name. |

| Hi, I have a 2009 Tour and same thing has happened to me, only on the right, and I think only when I didn't press the cover in really firmly. It appeared to be holding but must be able to slip off. It happened when I had the bike cover stuffed into that pannier so there was a little pressure to push the cover back open, but not a lot. Luckily the cover stayed stowed even when I was riding along for a while with the cover open (I am sure didn't look really cool!). |

They work as easy as a microwave oven door...two fingers to gently snap it shut and a single push of the button to pop it open. A small amout of oil on the latch made it even smoother.
When people gather around my Vision at a gas stop and I explain all the functions they are 2nd most impressed (e windshield 1st) at how cleanly the doors operate. A few have commented that it's like a cassette tape door. Several have asked if they could open and close the doors themselves because they couldn't believe it.
The design intent of the doors is fabulous. You just have to get everything lined up and tightened for them to work as intended. |
