Not too long ago I asked you what was on your dash and you posted a couple of photos of your VDO, I was quite impressed with this unit and its intent. So I went out and patterned the dash on my vision, stole a spare snow board bag out of the closet for the water resistance fabric and commandeered my wifes sewing machine (she was not happy to have me, a man who is used to power tools and not afraid to abuse them) and proceeded to make something similar to yours.

I was looking thru the Vision-Rider posts last night and came across old discussions you had about the design of your VDO, I have been reserved in sharing my version for fear of being known for stealing some elses ideas, these old post made me comfortable with showing off my version of your design using a moisture resistant nylon fabric.

My first attempt failed horribly, I installed the zipper on the wrong side (this has given my wife a lot of pleasure), but as you can see by the photos this one turned out great, it too is attached to the dash with two screws thru small nylon straps. I have not had a chance to road test it but it looks like it will work well. The nylon fabric folds down in front when the zipper is opened and provides good access for loading your phone, wallet, glasses, maps, etc.

In reading the post last night others would be interested in these units, after I have road tested this one I plan to give my patterns to a friend who is an upholsterer and see if she can produce a few, my two riding partners have visions and they both want one.

Also as you said in the former post about getting a logo embroidered on the top, I am going next week to select one, maybe a V with silver wings around it, I saw this on one of Songfans posters, this would be a good accent to the black fabric.

Please give me some feedback; I enjoy sharing what I have created for my vision. I am also working on a new exhaust tip, I will share it soon.

Scott, on the West Coast of Oregon

Very nice. Looks great!
You need to get back to the sewing machine and mass produce those or tell your wife to get to work. I can see alot of people wanting one of those.

Scott, looks good. I don't mind and actually mentioned that if folks had a way to do this, great. You have more of a "bag" versus and organizer and should be relatively easy to construct. My leatherman try to convince me to go the route you had gone as these are easy to reproduce and there may be material that will help retain the shape. However, I insisted on the outside to be in leather, meaning there is two parts to mine, the inside, constructed and curved with individual compartments and something that I feel is worthy for a Vision.

I don't really see anything wrong with what you are doing and not to confuse folks call yours a bag or something else I don't have any problem. I continue to work on getting mine final as I've been using what I had made for about 4 months now and love it, and have a few other folks that want the leather instead.

I was never out to make money on this venture and should have done what you done and gone on the cheap as there seems to be a greater interest. The product I have cost ME $400.00 and I've been trying to get it down to at least $250, but because of the dash curvature and the labor to construct the material to fit it to a T is instensive. Your solution is the easy way and I'm sure some folks don't mind the canvass look.

Varyder, my bag version has a rigid plastic sheet sewn in the top between two fabrics to hold the curved shape along with a foam liner glued in the bottom to help with shape, makes it more rigid for the curve of the dash and might protect items while riding.

Does your VDO have dividers in it? Is this what helps hold the curved shape on top?

I too am not into this to make money, the VDO is a very practicle piece of equipment for riders to store at arms distance your electronics, glasses, wallet, etc. I seen this right away on a photo you posted. I plan to make two more for my fellow vision riding partners, I'm sure I'll keep the third one for myself after than I would like to find someone who could produce them at a reasonable cost and make them available.

Thanks for the inspiration Varyder.

VisionTex, I am amazed with the creativity of vision riders here, each day I look for what is new in the Vision-Rider R&D department, like the arm rest design being shared and installing 30mm fork billet tips.

Thanks

Looks very nice and it wouldn't take much to sew some dividers in while it's apart it looks like.
A Vision Rider patch would look nice on it.
