Posts: 48 Oakdale MN | Is there anyway to increase the Rev limiter?? After doing cams,fuel controllerand throttle plates the only thing I do not like about my Vision is it hits the rev limiter way too easy. I know you can get around the top speed one ,but I want the change for just regular going though the gears. I talked to Lloyd in Iowa last year and he said he was working on it. |

Posts: 132 Durango, Colorado | The purpose of the rev limiter is to prevent over-revving the engine and the subsequent catastrophic damage as a result. It is particularly necessary in long stroke/ large bore engines like the vic twin and others. It is this design which provides the substantial off idle torque that V twins are known for. The down side is a significantly lower RPM redline. 4 cyl bike engines have much smaller bores and shorter strokes allowing for much higher revs and flatter torque curves peaking closer to redline.
I would try to modify your style slightly, shifting more quickly to avoid the limiter. This is the reason 6 speed trannys are much more popular on twins than 4 or 6cyl bikes. It is a simple matter of usable RPM range and mechanical advantage provided by the 6 speed.

I too had my cams done by Kevin and am now constantly hitting the rev limiter. So, besides the obvious and the safe, is there something for us that like to live in the red?  |

Posts: 1484 LaPorte,Tx. | The stroke on the 106 Freedom motor is (108mm) 4.25", and at 6500 rpm that give the piston travel at 4606 feet per minute. That's getting pretty high in the range for most motors, except for race motors with special components. I'm sure the components in the stock motor are high performance in the beginning, but don't know the specifics, like is it a forged crank, alum rods, lightweight pistons, etc...maybe someone already knows all of this. Having a motor seize on a bike is probably not pretty!  |

Posts: 2300 Georgia, west of Atlanta | Twin cam Harleys with 103" motors are run up to 6750 all the time and they have three piece crankshafts, male/female rods and 1/8" longer stroke and they don't break. I have one with 46,600 miles on it. The Victory motors have a one piece crankshaft and side by side rods which is way superior to The HD design. I agree 4600 ft per minute is a little high IF you hold it there for 30+ seconds at a time, that just dosen't happen on the road. These engines should be bullet proof at 6500 as a shift point. It must be possible, Lloydz has some dyno graphs for Vision 106's at and above 6000 rpm. Now where can I find a matching tach?? |

| Yes, I have a couple of them and one just finished for the Vision. It looks like with VM1's and the SL2 exhaust it run out of juice around 5,900. That said, the motor puts out 129hp and 130 ft lbs so I am not going to complain. The graph goes up to 6.400, but it is loosing power at that point. |

Had cams installed and tuned by Lloydz,They had me test ride it before I left the shop and I said same thing about hitting rev limiter. Lloyd change the box and I rode it again. WOW... I dont run it that hard alot , but when you want to go it will stay with almost anything.Change the limiter you will love it.

Posts: 48 Oakdale MN | Th Rev limiter is set for 6400. I just got my ECU back from Lloydz and I love it. Anyone that has done the cam swap should pay up another $225 and give Lloyd a call. |

Posts: 2300 Georgia, west of Atlanta | 6400 rpm should make it stomp. Even if you just use 6000- 6200 as a shift point at least it will rev without hitting the limiter. Probably give a 106" with cams, airbox, ecm and pipes the ability to get at or near 120 rwhp. |
