Quad Cities, IL | Hey all,
I somehow feel more compelled to consider an alarm / security system of some sort for my new Victory Vision than I did my previous 'zuki Boulevard cruiser. That said, I am struggling to find enough information to make a good decision. I doubt I will be short on opinions and experiences in this forum!
Thoughts on
- Disc Locks/alarms (Xena or others)
- RoadLok users (seems cool & functional but no bells or whistles, literally)
- Cyclone/Gorilla/Scorpio/Talon alarms w/ tilt, perimeter, sensors etc.
Really hoping to get insight from those who have chosen one or more means of security and why. What is good, what sucks and do you actually use it.

, FL United States | Kevin, when I got my Vis on 11/17/07 I was so paranoid that I used a disk lock,the vision forklock AND a Scorpio alarm system. Now I just have enough insurance to replace it. I have almost 36,000 miles on her and still goin' strong.
I will use the disk lock when we're on the road and parked overnight at a motel. JIC |

I have had a alarm on every bike that i have owned Except the vision. i will Not be installing an alarm on this bike. instead i upped my insurance coverage for pennies on the dollar and its still cheaper than an alarm system and this is for the extra coverage for many Years! An alarm system will not pay for your cycle if its stolen, insurance will. I came to this conclusion with all the alarm systems i have owned. They are basically toys. Their siren's are video game sounding & operate at a very low volume compared to a car alarm.. Also on my last bike i did a little test, i was in lowes parkinglot and decided to set the alarm off and sit back and see what happens.. You know NO ONE gave a crap.. not one person came over to it or did anything. And in most cases a truck with a loud exhaust or another motorcycle can easily drown out the weak alarm siren.. I had the pager with my last system and it was buggy as well. it was dependant on range AND what the building was made from... basically it was a noise maker with lights.. In the end, if someone out your vision in the back of a truck and took off, you dont get a dime for replacement from your alarm company, but you will from your insurance.. use the money from a alarm purchase and get Extra added coverage. Thats real peace of mind.. also one more thing, this happened to my friend on a trip. his HD alarm had ignition kill.. it FAILED on our trip and the bike wouldnt start!! Not common. but it happened.. |

Anderson, IN (48mi NE of downtown Indianapolis) | I have to agree with Arkainzeye. My truck came with a factory alarm. I have accidently set it off many times in parking lots. I usually put groceries, hardware, pet supplies, etc in the bed. I always forget to unarm the alarm because it is self arming. When I put something in the bed, the alarm sounds and flashes the lights. I then frantically try to unlock the door so I can get the key in the ignition to shut it off. My actions probably look like a thief in a hurry. Never has anyone cared. Even if I was a thief, what passerby is going to interfere? Two different times police cars drove by without even looking my way. I would not pay extra for an alarm. Good insurance is a much better way to protect my investment IMO. |

I have it on my 09 Vision, no problems yet. The Dealer installed it, took 3 hours at 70. a hour so it all balanced out cost wise. Also the support is excellent for this product.

Northeast Ohio | I have the Scorpio and have had it for about a year. I have used it one time.  Let's face it, we love our bikes, but a lot of folks don't. I doubt it will ever be a high target item. |

Hammer you will have to watch with that alarm.. that was actually the very last alarm i had. It has to be sent back 3 times! they even offered to refund all my money because of the problems i had with it.. the most common problem was the transmitter. then i had the head unit fail as well, i then had the motion sensor go out on me as well.. I willsay this.. GREAT customer service! But the product itself wasnt top grade.. but to be fair. my unit was from 2006-07/ I just know it was made by them.. The head unit they thought was going back because of "bumps" they asked if i was riding my motorcycle on really bumpy roads.. lol i told them, no its not a dirt bike... its a 900lbs cruiser.. Customer service A1, the product very buggy... So buggy i removed the alarm and rode in peace....... |

So for the insurance comments out there...I have my insurance through Progressive and carry a $100 deduct on comprehensive (theft included). But typically insurance will provide a "blue-book" replacement value which rarely covers the cost of a replacement ride. So do you up your bikes value somehow to ensure you get a fair replacement value? Exaggerate the customization costs or something?

Southeast Iowa | No alarm here, seems like a terrible waste of money to me. I ridden in 28 states..... big towns and small....I leave it in the hotel parking lot and never had a problem. I lock the forks and remove the key. That's it. If somebody wants it that bad they will take it one way or the other. I have Progressive insurance and you can add coverage to cover your options. More than likely the check from the insurance company won't cover it all..........but that's the case with anything you own and insure. |

I see on top of the price of the unit it $90 + a year. if you add that to your Extra coverage of your motorcycle your good, UNless they have something in plan where they assure you , you will get your motorcycle back or they pay for it? |
