Posts: 155 Stockton, California | Have any of you used the Garmin Nuvi 550 on a Vision? I am looking at usung it instead of the Zumo primarliy because it is half the price of the Zumo. It is a waterproof unit (not just water resistent). I did a side by side comparison on the Garmin site and all in all they are pretty close with a few exceptions (Zumo is bluetooth, has MP3 and more waypoints) My problem is I can not find a mount that I am sure will work like the mount for the Zumo. The RAM mount for the Nuvi is very tall. I like the mount on the Zumo because it is low profile. If you have installed a Nuvi I would appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks |

Waterproof or not, will it hold up to all the additional vibration, bumps, etc.? I realize our Visions are pretty smooth but even so you are subjecting it to much more than in a car. |

Posts: 70 Central Victoria, Australia | Cycle gadgets have ram mounts for the nuvi,
I have been looking at the same thing as my zumo "has had it" due to internal corrosion, i detailed that in another post.
i thought the nuvi track, but the garmin people are very smart, the nuvi doesnt have bluetooth or an external audio jack, so you cant get sound out it, having the gps going through a bluetooth headset ( interphone) or through the victorys sound system on aux, means you dont have to look at the thing and you can sing along with the mp3
a supermarket chain here , in Oz, had a motorcycle unit with a FM headset for $149 AUD, its waterproof has mounts and Route 66 software.
i purchased one for the Madass 125s we occasionally tour on, but havent been out on them yet.
Im not sure if you guys have ALDI in the US? but it was one of their propreitary brands
in saying all this i would like the zumo 650 but have to work out what to do with the 550, riders on ADVrider forum have had similar failures,

I just figured that out. I did a comparison on the Garmin site of the Zumo and the Nuvi and I found out the Nuvi does not have the audio jack. So I guess I will have to bite the bullet and get the Zumo. I reallly want the GPS to come through my Starcom as I do not want to pay much attention to the screen. My eyes are bad enough wile not moving. |

Posts: 126 Meadow, Texas | I've got the Garmin NUVI 760 and it was mounted to a ball on my VTX. Never a problem and it had an audio jack plus I would use the MP3 portion to play through speakers. You can either set it up to play through the FM transmitter or the audio jack. Either works fine.
Just thought I'd throw in my 2cents.
But I've had zero problems with my Nuvi except that the Victory Ball mount doesn't work for the Garmin - live and learn, and does anybody want to buy on real cheap.............
