| The only complaints I have heard about Amsoil in Victorys is from someone that said their customers put it in and messed up their clutches. No mention if the bikes had EZ Clutch on them or if the customer may have used the wrong Amsoil or even if the owners were known for doing burnouts. I have over 100,000 using the proper Amsoil in my Vics with NO problems.
Now that my local ACE Hardware store carries Amsoil life is good. |

Cant say if the others outlast that or not but I'm gonna change at 2.5k and use what came in the bike...for what its worth.

Posts: 3773 Pittsburgh, PA | Someone asked about whats the differnece between 20w50 and 10w40. if you use a high grade synth oil, you Dont need a 20w50. when i had my kawasaki vulcan 2000 (125ci) i ran amsoil for 7500 miles and sent the used oil in to be tested at blackstone labs. i was shocked with the results. they told me i was able to extend the oil change even further since all the additives and cleaners were way within spec. plus it was still within the 10w40 grade and didnt (at that point) thin to a W30. one thing about the 20w50 vs 10w40 is, the 10w40 flows faster on a dry start up. So if your using a high grade synth like Amsoil, you dont need 20w50. I think victory recommends a w40 grade anyways? btw you wont hurt anything by using a 20w50 very slight decrease in fuel economy (very slight) . here is something i was wondering.. Since victory recommends a w40 oil and we have self adjusting valve lashers, do the valves self adjust quicker with w40 vs w50? thats a question not a statement.. |

I think the kawasaki vulcan 2000 is a water cool engine. So , is it safe to say that the break down of the oil wouldn't be the same compare to a V-Twin air cool or oil cool ? Since the motor would run hot , more then the kawasaki vulcan 2000 , which would be better 10w-40 or 20w-50 synth...? |

Posts: 619 Southeast Iowa | I started using Amsoil 10-40 (which is what Amsoil recommends for Victory) but switched to 20-50 when my wife's bike had a lifter sticking. It went away fairly quickly, but it acted like the oil was leaking by and not building up enough pressure. It did this twice after a fresh oil change so I switched to the 20-50 and it never happened again. I haven't tried to measure the viscosity of the oil but Amsoil 10-40 definitely seems thinner than the Vic oil. The 20-50 is much closer in consistency and works great in my bikes. |

5 quarts of oil 20.00 1 filter 6.00 total cost 26.00
Just cut open the last filter and nothing in it but wet filter media. That's a good thing 35,000 and still counting.
If the Polaris oil change kit was priced close to this I would simply get that ans help a local dealer but its way more than 26.00
The cold and hot start rocker tick until pressure builds always seems the same no matter what oil I have used..

How are you cutting open your filters to inspect them? I thought about using a dremel tool or a saw but that would leave shavings and I'd have no way to tell if it were from sawing or the engine. I've often wondered what the inside of my filters looked like after an oil change. |

keep in mind while the vulcan 2000 IS water cooled, it is only water cooled on the heads and not the entire engine. Whereas the entire engine of the Vision is Oil Cooled.. and amsoil can handle and 180-220F range of the victory motor with No problem at all. So you dont need to go to a w50 because your worried about heat. The only way you would want to go to a thicker oil is IF the oil was breaking down to a thinner weight. The amsoil is Not breaking down to a thinner weight so why not just go with the w40 weight.. Btw w40 COOLS quicker than w50, thats a fact. So speaking of heat of this engine, theres another reason to go with 10w40 vs 20w50. along with fuel econmy and quicker oil flow on a Cold start up. and the list goes on... Until you trust amsoil and it ability to stay within Grade people will continue to want a "thicker" oil... I know amsoil stays in grade from the multi tests, yes the vulcan 2000 is water cooled (up top) but it is also 19 cubic inches Bigger as well! your talking 2053cc vs 1731cc. believe me it made heat.. a 2litre engine on a bike makes heat!lol plus the torque of the motor will surely stress the engine. and each time no matter which test i ran, the oil stayed in grade.. EVERY TIME.. i even went to another oil because i was pissed at amsoil and their prices and i didnt get the same results.. so i was forced to go back if i wanted to trusted results i had before hand.. even now i am still looking for another oil another than amsoil... just to save a buck.. but at the sametime im not going to compromise my engine to save a buck... just my 2 cents.. |

Posts: 763 Anderson, IN (48mi NE of downtown Indianapolis) | Reusing oil is a reality. My dad is so cheap that when my brother got his first car he made him save the oil he drained out so he could use it in his truck. My dad felt that the oil did not break down enough in 3000 miles to be no-good. So, he put it in his truck for another 30k miles. He drove a 4 cylinder which held 4 quarts. A quart at the time was $1. In his mind it was worth saving $4 by reusing oil. That is no lie or exaggeration. |

Been there done that one and really made an improvement... That was using A racing fuel laddened oil in my wifes old Ford Torino. It had a sticky wrist pin or something of the sort and was knocking. After I put in the used racing oil it went away, Good to go for another year. Saddly when I was driving it to the junk car dealer ( like a rental) in first and on the floor I think it threw the timing chain. Drove it toits untimly death...LOL Cutting the filter with a hack saw about 3/8 inch below gaslet area all the way around . Rotate the filter while holding in a vise works. You may get some metal around the cut area but the true stuff from the engine if any will be down in the base of the pleats. This is how I found what each filter had for its innards. |

Posts: 3773 Pittsburgh, PA | is this a untrue.... my dealer told me victory was working on coming out with a synth oil that will allow us to have more than the 2500 mile oil change intervals? When i talk to other people who own a touring bike they are Really shocked that a touring machine has such a crappy oil change interval.. here's and example, i have a chance to ride with a friend on a 4700 mile trip. Do i try half way through the trip and find a dealer to get a oil change? LOL my friends Wing is 8000 mile Oci.. i dont know what HD is.. and here we are, on the shortest Oil chance interval ive ever seen on a 21 century motorcycle. Why can others extend their oil change intervals? Is it the Oil they are using?. Is it the technology of the engines themselves? Any idea? keep in mind their OCI's keep the warranty in check as well.. |

| iluvink, I believe what KevinX was referencing is some mild clutch slipping that can occur (according to some) when running synthetic. I argued this point with KevinX some time back and then sure enough found my Vision to be slipping mildly. I also found that changing brands of synthetic played a roll in clutch feel/slip. Can't explain why so don't ask, lol....
So long and short is the Vic oil is a semi-syn and it doesn't tend to slip, but synthetic CAN cause slip. Now thats not to say if you run syn you WILL have slip, just be aware that it could even though you may not notice it much. |
