Posts: 2 Long Island, NY | Back around 2001-2002 I fell in love with the Yamaha Venture (when I owned a Honda Ace Tourer) and it took me about two years to finally buy the Venture and I never looked back. The Venture has a site and I joined that too, many months before my actual purchase. I love the Venture and never even looked at another bike until I saw the Vision. Man oh man I just love this bike. So in preparation for the inevitable purchase one day, I wanted to join you fine people and begin to learn more about this amazing bike.
I have seen two in person and yesterday spent a fair amount of time in the saddle but no riding due to road conditions. Spoke to the dealer for over an hour going over the bike in every detail. The dealer doesn't have all the answers but he was honest about what he knew and didn't know. For instance, I can't tell if there is a communication system stock, auxillary power adaptors, or what that middle plug near the base of the seat is for (near the radio controls) (and the dealer couldn't answer). i did find a plug near the passenger seat so i suspect there is some form of communication.
The bike looks so long when sitting on it and that may have to do with not being able to see over the fairing (for me anyway at 5'9" but to my surprise the bike is virtually the same exact length and weight as my Venture.
Anyway I can't wait to take this baby for a test ride but i know when i do i better be ready to ride off with it cause i'm sure it will be a blast.
i have always felt the need for a rider's backrest but that seat is amazing and it seems to really satisfy my need for back support. the bike i saw yesterday was fully loaded and it even had fork lights which were very cool. the garmin gps system is actually outdated so i may go with a garmin zumo which would also handle music. amazing this new bikes offers an outdated gps....but hey the Venture still comes with a cassette player as standard equipment. anyone still buy cassetts?
so just stopping by to say hello and already have enjoyed the many posts i have taken time to read.

Posts: 256 Florida | Hey Rick,
I can tell that you're hooked! If you don't want to buy it, here's some free advice: Do Not Take A Test Drive!
Since you already like the looks, once you ride it, you'll buy it! I've owned a dozen bikes over the years and nothing has come close to the Vision.
I can't answer all your questions, but I'll address the ones I "think" I know:
There is no communications system stock. It's an option. I didn't get it as I'm using a Bluetooth helmet. It's my understanding that the intercom is bundled with the CB radio system.
There are connections for auxiliary power, but you have to buy the adapter. This is a puzzling one...why didn't they include it?
I'm not sure what "middle plug" you're talking about. The lowest button on the console is the audio power button.
Yes, the Victory Garmin is outdated. I went with the newer model - Garmin Street Pilot 4820 and it works fine. No complications on setup as it uses the same wiring as the 4720. A larger display would be nice...but having the turn-by-turn voice directions go through the audio system keeps your eyes on the road.
You're correct about the rider backrest...it's not needed.
I'm sure there are others here who can address your issues better than me as I'm a newbie too! Just got mine last week.
So, whatever you do, don't take a test drive...unless you have your checkbook handy. |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | I've read where they're trying to put on a backrest for the already supportive seat. Personally, I don't ever see a need for one on this fine machine. I've already logged 730 miles in a single day and did even think that I needed one. I hope mine and other will let you know what you are missing when one passes by on that long stretch of highway with a big Victory Vision smile.
I see many miles of smiles on my ViVi. |

Posts: 904 29 Palms California | rick, there is no 7 step program to recover from the Vision. Once this things gets in your blood, it's there for life. This bike is worth every bit of money I spent on it. I pray warm weather hits the "other" parts of the country soon. |

Posts: 354 20 miles west of Chicago. | Varyrider; As regards a backrest, if you wear down, compress and bulge out the disk between your 4th and 5th lumbar vertabrae so that it appears on an x-ray to be about 1/3 the thickness of your other disks, and which, from time to time, can cause muscle spasms in your lower back with such severe pain that you drop to your knees as though hit with a sladgehammer, and have to crawl to bathroom on your hands and knees for 2 or 3 weeks, the need for a backrest for some of us will be become apparent. Consider the implications of this happening when 3 or 4 hundred miles from home on a motorcycle. I truly and sincerely hope that you never have need for one, but please understand that, for me at least, it is a neccessity for riding any substantial distance. |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | Mudge, I'm sorry for the discomfort from you back pain and I commend you for having to go through that and that it hampers your desire to ride. My reference to not needing a backrest was reference to those who thought there is a need for one before riding the Vision. I do understand that in your case and many others there is a need for many things to aleviate that which I have yet to experience.
To rattle on more and hopefully keep from sticking my foot in my mouth again, is that when I rode my GL1200 I thought of a backrest continually, but never had one unless my beloved pillion was riding or I had a bag in the pillion seat. When I first saw the Vision, I asked to myself, "Okay, can I get a backrest?" After riding to Florida and back I realized I don't need one....yet.
I humbly apologize for the offense and hope all is okay between me, you and anyone else I may have offended. I hope you pain is minimized and that you can have many happy miles ahead. |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | No problem Mudge, my wife tells me that I'm insensitive at times, I thought I was just being myself again and didn't want to offend a fellow Vision rider.
My Wing buddy don't want to talk to me anymore because, though we used to talk Wings all the time, he don't want to talk Vision. Everything I say about what the Vision does, he'll say the Wing can do it better. I told him after lunch there was one thing I don't like about the Vision. He's eyes bugged and he kinda half-grinned until I told him, that I can't get anywhere because whenever I stop someone is always asking about the Vision. Of course, his half-grin when straight and he said I know how you feel, they're always asking about his trailer that looks like a 32 Ford Coupe that he has on the back of his Illusion Blue Wing. Of course I told him that there asking about something they can ride with the Vision and not something that is dragged behind. He don't seem to like me right now...but I'm still happy when I ride. (All in fun)
