Has anyone had the stock Vision seat modified?

With my bad back the bevel at the base of the seat has me squirming all over the place after 100 miles. I was hoping to get it squared off and have it feel like the new Vision 8ball seat. I'd buy that seat but it does not have the same padding as the Premium Tour seat. I'd also hate to spend several hundred on an after market seat if a simple mod by an upholster can fix the problem.

Thanks

The seat on my Vision is the best I've ever had, but I got pressure points on my hips after about 2 hours. I had a local shop cut out the seat from just behind the curves at the tank to the back, then the whole center width of the passenger seat leaving about 2" in front and back to keep the shape and then cut and shape this to fit:

I used the 3" thick. This stuff is used in custom wheelchair seats - if someone can sit on this for 16 hours a day I figured it couldn't be too bad. I LOVE it. Regular foam gets harder as it compresses. So my hip bones carried more weight than the rest of my sitting area. The memory foam keeps the same pressure as it compressed until you have even support over the whole area - thus, no pressure points. The stuff is a little pricey but I think it was worth every cent.

I need a little mod to move the seat "dish" back since I slide forward a bit on the slippery vinyl seat cover. The stock seat they matched dishes in the middle so I am going to move the low spaot closer to the back support. Make sur your low point is positioned right before they shape it. Depends on your "contact area" size I guess.

The only down side is that memory foam doesn't snap back as soon as you get off so the seat looks a little saggy for a while until it reforms. That and this is a dense & heavy foam. Which means it can soak up a LOT of heat in the summer sun. Keep it covered or it will blister your butt after sitting in the sun on a 100+ day. Otherwise, perfect.

I've sat on the Vision 8-Ball and the $899 Vision leather seat with the back rest. Granted I only sat on them, so I can't say what is better, but for my money & comfort, add the Utopia back rest to the stock seat. For long distance riding, you can adjust the amount of pressure & height you want on your back. I think it is one of the best additions I've made to the bike.

If you are serious about modifying your stock seat, there is a fella up here in the Seattle area, that does an awesome job. Check out Rich's Custom Seats.... Here is a link to his website:

http://www.richscustomseats.com/

He has done two seats for us, both Vegas's... My Vision seat seems comfy enough right now, especially since I installed the backrest... IF I decide to have anything done to my stock seat, I wouldn't take it to anyone but Rich...

I guess I should have noted that I have the Utopia backrest as I could not ride without it. I'll check with an upholsterer to see if they can modify the seat I have. Thanks for the input.

I would suggest talking with your dealer and find someone that has a Vision 8Ball and would be nice enough to let you ride it for 100 miles. That way you find out with buying it's seat would work for you. heck swap bikes and offer to pay for their gas?
Or find a dealer near by using a Vision 8Ball for a demo bike.

The ultimate is to cover it with leather regardless the way you go. Leather puts a different dynamic to the seat and for comfort as it doesn't give and stretch like the vinyl does. Since leather has some breathability to it, I don't get the monkey butt like on a vinyl seat. I still have the stock seat on my Vision and that is my only complaint on long summer rides that I have about this bike.

Several riding buddies have had their seats modified by Russel and they claim this to be the ultimate seat. They are pricey but they can stay 'in the saddle' all day.

You might want to check them out:

Im working on a custom seat now for mine. I bought one on e-bay for $100 got it home and cut it apart. I think with reshaping the foam and adding gel inserts I should be able to make it sit at least back 1" and lower 2.5" thats my goal anywhase, I have not decided the covering yet thinking leather sides and cloth saddles.
