If you plan on riding in Christmas "Light Parade" DO NOT use felt to cover your headlights!!!!!! I learned this the hard way tonight and now have two "eyebrows" burned into the plastic headlight housing/cover!!

It does not appear to lessen the amount of light projected out but to say it is an "eyesore" is putting it lightly! I'll post a pic tomorrow when I get it out in the daylight.

Here is what the felt did to the cover. This parade was less than 40 minutes long and temps were mid to low 40s.

Ouch....sucks.....

However....judging by the picture....this might possibly be fixable.....maybe.

However unless you know how to wetsand and polish this is probably isn't something you are going to be able to fix yourself. Its something a collision facilty can possibly fix. Take the bike by a collision shop or two and see what they think. I cant truly tell or know without looking at the headlamp myself, but my experience tells me that this looks fixable. Would probably take 1.5 to 2.0 hours.

Or maybe a professional detailer who knows what they are doing might be able to fix the damage. This route might be cheaper than a collision shop.

Once its fixed I think worse case scenario there might possibly be some barely visible distortion in the lens. Wouldn't really know until all is said and done though.

What about sanding and buffing the lens?

I've been able to do that to my Goldwing to remove pits from the lens. First clean the plastic with Mineral Spirits to remove the glue from the Lens. Wipe the lens dry. Use 2000 grit wet sanding paper. Use clean water and sand the lens until the pitting is gone. Use a good polish like Flitz and a clean buffing wheel to buff out the lens. If the pitting is too deep you'll need to rreplace the lens or lamp Assy.

Good luck

It is symmetrical. I say have a pin-striper make it into evil eyes! Make that lemon into lemonade..

At this point I'm willing to try "almost" anything. The plastic is damaged pretty deeply and although I don't think it will cause blown bulbs the pics don't really do justice to how deeply the plastic has melted. I'm a tad leary about trying to polish it out any although that might work. As the assembly costs more than $430.00 plus at least 1.5 to 2.0 hours labor, I'm thinking if the bulbs don't blow out I'll wait and see if "uncle" has a refund for me and in the mean time I may attach some shaggy fabric to the defects so that it looks like eyebrows until I get it replaced!!

Try a product called flitz we use them to bring back the lenses of the headlight lenses that have been oxidized from the sun. It won't hurt the lense. It works best if you can use a buffing pad on a die grinder.

Good luck
