Newnan, GA | My goldwing had a real good horn. What kind of horn does the Vision have?
A robust car kind of horn or a little POS horn. |

| A bit louder than a basic stock "fits all" type horn, but still a single note. I'm thinking of upgrading mine. |

Reno County, KS | Kansasguardsman has a good tutorial on upgrading your horn in the tech reference section. The Vision has a much better horn than a small cruiser per se but it could stand to be a little louder. It's not that high-pitch shrill sound like on an old rice burner. |

Atlanta Area | Allot of Vision owners have added the Stebel air horn... It is wicked loud and sounds great... |

I was goimg to install it in my old VN800B. I ended up selling the bike.

| I have the Stebel plus the stock horn so it is a 3 tone. I think I still like the sound of the GL1800 horn better. It sounds more like a sturdy truck/car horn versus a Mini-Cooper horn. Sooner or later I may install a GL1800 horn in place of the Stebel and stock horn. Tim

| highly unlikely Mongo. I would rather not give folks a reason to look over their shoulder thus finding them in my lane any quicker. |

Newnan, GA | I think I'd stick with the Stebel over the GL horns. The high pitch shriek of it will get the attention the cagers. I had a set of air horns on my KAW 1500 and it was a great mod to install.
When I hit the air horns, it would snap the heads in the cage next to me to the point that I would think they hurt their neck.

| Mongo we all have our own distinct riding habits. If you like louder horns Autozone sells a number of high db horns reasonably priced, incuding self contained airhorns. ride safe.....T |

North Orange County CA | I had a Howard's "Little Big Horn" on my E-glide.
http://www.howardshorns.com/ . The website is a little crude (design-wise) but there are links to the sound files for each of the products.
When you hit the button to light up the "Little Big Horn" cage drivers heads tend to snap around. It has a high pitched grating note that is so piercing that I quickly learned to hate its sound.
I'm not a sound engineer but I think the high pitch of this horn probably doesn't carry as far as the lower pitch of normal horns, but it seems to be different (and loud) enough that it cuts through consciousness of the idiot who's attention I'm trying to get and they know that they're not looking for a truck or another car.
These are true rebuildable air horns with external compressors. Finding a suitable place to mount / hide the compressor is the biggest issue. On my HD, I replaced the cowbell with the horn (pointing down) and I mounted the compressor under the seat.

Pittsburgh, PA | i had to use my horn today. havent in a very long time. this lady was driving and she wasnt aware that ALL her brake lights were out! she was a light singing and i tried to wave at her to get her attention.. one i used my horn twice then she seen me. I surely could have used a louder horn. to be honest i use my pipes more than i use my horn.. like if someone is starting to drift over into my lane and there is no place for me to go ill hold in my clutch for a sec and rev the engine. then they go right back into their lane. |

New Bohemia, VA | If I get "offended" by someone coming into my lane, I'll leave my horn on until I get pass them. They'll look at me like I'm stupid, but I just hope they'll look before they change lanes the next time. |

North Orange County CA | I forgot my own advice to another rider traveling through Socal and made the mistake of spending what seemed like an interminable chunk of Sunday afternoon in the atrocity that is "Coming Home from Vegas" traffic on the I-15 freeway. We had a great run up the mountain to Big Bear and I decided to go down the back side on the CA18 through Apple Valley and Victorville.
102 by the Vision thermometer. Then we hit the 15! OMG people If I used my horn once I used it 20 times in the 26 miles between Victorville and the 210. NEVER, NEVER Again! A couple of days in Las Vegas and they not only loose there money but their minds. I have one guy, yeah the same guy, try to pull into my lane twice in a matter of a couple of miles. Dude had his window open too.
Anyway all this is by way of saying I'm moving back to airhorns.
Howard's is having a sale on the "little Big Horn for Metric and Euro bikes - while supplies last". I just ordered one for my vision today. |

San Antonio, TX | It is rare that I use the horn but I used it on Monday. I have the Stebel Nautilus Air Horn installed.
On the way home an idiot zombie (late 30's early 40's white male) walked out in front of my Vision. He only looked once in my direction and did not see me coming. He stepped off of the curb and started to cross four traffic lanes and the center turn lane.
I saw the classic sign of a impending collision. He was positioned at the same angle over the fairing but just kept getting larger as I made my way. After crossing two lanes, I figured he would look before he stepped into my lane. Nope. Lucky for him I watch way down the road and started slowing down. I backed off from 45 to 30 and he crossed in front of my Vision and out of my lane.
At a little less then a car length away I want to make sure that he really knows I am there......so I thumb the horn switch and hold it down.
What happened next was really fun. Without looking back, he did a staggered two footed bunny hop away from me while swinging both arms down and behind his rear....as to shoo the freight train away that was behind him.
I am not sure but I think his pants had an extra heavy load in them as I passed.
This was my public service for him since next time he might want to cross at the intersection fifty feet away in the cross walk and with the light as he learned in elementary school.

New Bohemia, VA | I might have caused a little heavy britches yesterday on the Chipenham. Three young boys were climbing the center retaining wall from the north to south bound side. One was up on the wall, one was coming down and one had his back to me already over watching the other two. I came by blowing my horn as they were very foolish to be doing what they were doing. The boy standing turned and his eye were big as saucers and I believe I saw a little jump. |

Goldsboro, NC | This ain't a horn story... but it is about noisy things and stupid people, so it sort of fits. When school let out last year, we had a few people in the trailer park down the street who had not planned what to do with their kids. Left them running around the neighborhood. It was not long before the kids got bored and started hiding in the woods across the street to throw sticks at cars going home after work. That got old really fast.
The second time I got hit, I stopped the car and announced to the woods where the kids were hiding that sometimes people get shot for messing around like that.
The very next day, I saw broken sticks in the road, a dead giveaway that the kids were at it again... but I was ready for them. Just before the section of road where they were plainly hiding, I slammed on the brakes, got out of the car and threw 3 m-80's into the ditch in front of me while pointing my finger at them.
I have not seen a stick in the road at that spot since. |
