Posts: 725 Reno County, KS | Hey all,
Just thought I'd drop this in the think tank and see what floats. Lloydz has overdrive and underdrive performance pulleys listed for the Vision. I live in an area with 55mph and 65mph posted. I'm not much for faster freeway riding but it is a good option I sometimes take for making up time. At 65mph, 6th is lugging the bike. 75mph seems to be the sweet spot. At 55mph 6th is pretty much out of the question. I know 6th is supposed to be overdrive but I usually end up having to downshift before passing anyway becuase granny is doing 50 or a trucker is down to 45mph trying to get up hill. I was looking at going the underdrive route before for more torque but am unsure. I don't know of anyone who's done this on the Vision. A few of you have gone overdrive on the primary pulley. Looking at my signature, you probably tell that I don't care for 55mph although I do my level best to not get frusterated and stick to it. Any thoughts or experience with the under/overdrive pulleys?
Thanks,
-Will |

Alan
If I had Lloyds cams and other stuff I guess it wouldn't make sense. |

You could always pick a gear between the two and play it safe. Just kidding, I think I would agree with Big Al. |

Posts: 725 Reno County, KS | Yeah, I think I'm with you guys on this. I really do want more snap off the line, or at a minimum keep what I got. I'm afraid I'll sacrafice that with the overdrive pulley. I might end up shooting Lloyd an email. One way of the other, I'll be better off then lugging around in 6th. I'll bet at least one of his customers has given him feedback from the Vision perspective. I'm running ratios in my head. I'm also afraid that it will severely screw up my speedometer cal. |

Posts: 64 Hot Springs Village, Arkansas | If the Vision is like the Kingpin I had, the speed sensor is reading belt speed at the counter shaft. This means engine speed does not matter, the belt is tied to the rear sprocket/wheel/tire which is not going to be changed. Alan |

In speeds between 45 to 72 mph 5th gear works great for me. If I remember right in 5th gear at 70 mph is 3000 rpm. At 3000 rpm the Vision has the vibes that other V-twins have at 2000 rpm.
I use 6th for more open roads that are 65 or higher.
Plus, you have a higher top end in 5th (122 mph) then sixth due to the rpm limiter. So if you need to pass (or just GO!) just twist in 5th.

Posts: 170 Barrington, NH | I ran Lloyds underdrive pulley on my vision for about a month. I tried it because I wanted to see if it would help the quarter mile times. It did make the bike better around town on take off from traffic lights and stop signs. Personally I like lugging the crap out of this motor so I went back to the stock pulley and was thinking of getting an overdrive pulley for when I go on long road trips and cruise at over 80mph for long periods of time. |

Posts: 725 Reno County, KS | Thanks for the valuable input Chico7z. I'm going to wait and see how she runs after I have a chance to play with Nitrous. I'm constantly in and out of 5th/6th when I ride around my local area.
Thanks for the heads up Radioteacher. I was also thinking about the fact that the Rev limiter in 5th would drop my top end from 122mph. Not that I need to go that fast but it's nice to know its there. I did the ratio's up and it looks like you might rev limit at about 131 w/overdrive and back to about 115 or so with underdrive. Again, I think I'll wait and see. Maybe I just need to adjust my riding style/attitude. Radioteacher: What kind of MPG have you been experiencing while keeping it in 5th? Did it make a big difference? Thanks guys. |

Posts: 1484 LaPorte,Tx. | I would like to go with an overdirve pulley to get more use out of 5th gear and use 6th for 75 and above only. But, overdirve would increase the 1st gear speed, and I think at slow speed riding like in stop n go traffic first gear is too fast already. Too much clutching, big pain in the left hand for me. If I didn't live next to a big city, I'd put it on. Chico7z is the install very hard? |

Its not hard, maybe a little annoying because the exhaust is a pain to get out of the way but thats about it. You will need a fairly heavy torque wrench and loctite for the drive sprocket nut but everything else is basic hand tools and a lot of tape to prevent scratching. I would leave the underdrive in mine if I didnt do a lot of highway riding. |

What effect on quarter mile times did the underdrive pulley have vs the stock pulley? Was the 12.43 ET with the underdrive or the stock pulley? Inquiring minds need to know. Do you still have the UD pulley, and would it be for sale? Thanks.

I just visited their web site and could not find them listed under the Vision section. Are they listed somewhere else?
thanks in advance, |
