Yes. To embed them into a post, check the "add attachments" box under the post before hitting submit. After you hit submit, a dialog will show for you to browse the pic you want to post before your message actually posts. Give it a shot here for practice just for the hell of it since this threads already running.

Posts: 113 East Ohio | the easiest way i found to do that was to open the picture in paint or most other software and hit "resize" and make it about 25% both horizonal and vertical and save it, that usually puts me in the right range, goodluck

Fountain Inn, SC United States | The size limit for attached photos is 90k (set with deference to those on slow connections). If you use html to display a photo already online, there is no size limit. |

Posts: 935 Rockford, IL | I have irfranview and it works great for basic photo editing, such as resizing. But an easier tool to use is the Microsoft picture resizer from here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx its located in the right colum about 2/3 down on the page. Simply download and install. Then you can right click on any picture and then simply resize it. Works great and fast and super easy. Easier than irfranview. |

If you use html to display a photo already online, there is no size limit. In todays world who is on a slow connection anymore??? IMHO....a bit of a weak reason/excuse for the pic size limit. Would think that at least 95% of the folks here are on DSL or similar connection. |

Posts: 2118 Pitt Meadows, BC Canada | A quick and easy way to resize is to RIGHT click on your picture then: - select 'Send To' - select 'Mail Recipient' You will then be asked if you want to 're-size' - once the e-mail has been created - you can 'save attachments' - as the new resized photo. |

Fountain Inn, SC United States | It's amazing so many are having trouble posting photos. The 90k size limit is actually very generous and can still display good quality photos. I'm guessing it's because more folks have digital cameras with high megapixel settings. You don't need to have a full 5 megapixel photo to display on a webpage. In fact, we ask that you keep the dimensions to 640 wide or smaller. Also, some are trying to upload photos that are considerably higher than 72ppi (pixels/inch). That alone will account for a massive file size. The first thing I suggest is to reduce the ppi to 72 using any of the image manipulation programs out there ( and may have come with your camera). Then reduce the dimensions to 640 or lower in width. Finally, many programs allow you to specify the quality of the resulting image. You can easily reduce it to 50% without visible degradation. That should get you below the size limit and still look very good.
Alternatively, if you are just too lazy to do all this, there's one more option. You can upload your full size photo (no size limitation) to your profile on the Victory-Riders Network and then just refer to it in the forum post. What, you haven't joined the VRN? Do it Now!!! When you refer to an image already online (such as a photo on the VRN), be sure to specify a width of 640 or less so that it doesn't do weird things with the forum layout.
Use this simple line of code:
<img src="photo url goes here in quotes" width="640">
You can also refer to the HOW TO guides in the Welcome forum

| I just tried out Don Tracey Idea on how to post a pic it works and its very easy I take it that there is a different between pic file size and the size of the pic or do they affect each other . |

Posts: 2118 Pitt Meadows, BC Canada | Hey Jeff ! You mention 90KB limit. Are you averaging out the limits on "Vision Discussion" forum (Max 80kb allowed) and "General Discussion" forum (Max 100kb allowed) ????
It would be nice to be consistant (preferably at about 140kb - 800x600 which Microsoft calls 'SMALL' size)
Your 640x480 (smaller) is too small for my Old Eyes - and at 90kb - won't fit on THIS forum. |

Don, thank you. You pointed out a glaring error on my part. I hadn't realized there were inconsistencies across forums. I have gone across all forums and set the size limit to 100k per photo. This means that any forum page has the possibility of being 2.5MB+ in download size if every post attaches 1 photo at 100k. Since there is no limit on the number of attachments, a page could conceivably be unbearably big. That's the reality a webmaster has to deal with. If folks begin to complain that pages are loading slowly, the size limit will be reduced again.
As for the dimensions, there are no hard limits except for the fact that I ASK that photos be 640 wide or smaller (height has no restrictions). As many of you have seen, wide photos screw with the page layout. Whenever I've seen a extra wide photo, I've gone and edited the code to display it smaller (webmaster's prerogative). Please keep photos at this reasonable width.
Thanks!
