Took the rear tire into today to get replaced and noticed a rattle, duh, it was the rotor. The little circle thingies are loose and making it rattle. The dealer looked and saw that I was on extended warranty and hopes they'll replace it with the high mileage. We'll have to wait and see as the warranty folks don't seem to like people who ride a lot.

It's about $230.00 for a new rotor so I wouldn't be out too much if they won't replace, but if they won't replace it that means I should get my money for the extended warranty back, right? I have to just wait and see.

Rotors won't be covered as they are a normal wear item.

varyder, well I hope they replace it for you but having run floating rotors on many bikes, the connecting rings do loosen with use. I suspect they'll deny it as a wear item but you never know, might get lucky.

Chris-

Here is a link from someone who had the same issue you have right now.... http://www.vision-riders.com/bb/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=2558&pos...

I knew I remember seeing this problem in a thread.

I remember watching the video he posted. It was the EXACT problem you are describing !!

Maybe send the guy a PM and see if they ever covered it under the EW?

Please keep us updated....(which is safe to assume that you will)

The link is now broken to the video, and thanks for pointing out the link Lotzafun. Toward the end I think they are describing the condition I have, and for others if you want to check it out, here is how you do it.

With the bike on the ground and you on the rotor side of the tire, grab the rotor like you are grabing a steering wheel. Try turning the rotor left or right (forwards and backwards) and see if there is any play. Mine has about a 1/32 play due to the round connectors that go all the way around the inner part of the outer rotor.

My dealer didn't seem to be too concerned with the play as there as been a lot to do it without issue, and if it gets worse it needs to be replace before the circle connectors wear out. I have not noticed anything unusual with breaking and only discovered the problem when I bounced the removed tire and heard a rattle.

There is no side slop, that is, if you lay the tire down with the rotor facing up and grag and try to wiggle back and forth it does not give at all, only on rotation.

Potential Improvement from the OEM Rotor..
I recently got my wife an 04 Kingpin and it had a brake rotor issue on the rear. I was not that it was loose as described above but more that it had oblonged itself and the rear brake action was not smooth. I noted that the front rotor had been replaced with the OEM rotor so I had to think the OEMS were having some issues. I remeberd the post that I saw on the real loose one and was not going to replace with another of the same.
I did some research on brake rotors and found two alternatives One from EBC ( OEM Replacement) and another wave rotor from Galfer.
I go the EBC since it was less expensive than what I could get the OEM for and it was locally available. The Galfer is much more but I think they would be a nice addition to the fron of a Vision.
The EBC has the same silver inner hub as OEM and the Galfers inner hub is black.
BTW the EBC rotor is working fine 4000 miles later...

I believe Ness makes some nice rotors as well.
varyder, from what you are describing.... it sounds like you do not have a problem at all. With floating rotors the rings will free play. Some will feel tight while others lose. If you mark the lose ones and run it some you'll find they switch around. As long as you don't have any significant side to side (in and out) movement of the rotor, I wouldn't give it a thought.
Sorry but when I first read your post I thought they were lose enough to allow the rotor outer contact plate to slop around, my bad.

?? - I did describe that the outer rotor turns, moves, slops, not much, but the play is there. There is no perpendicular movement, just rotational and has had no effect on braking. The dealer has said they have seen that condition and mine is not bad, but should be replaced. I'm keeping an eye on it and hope to hear from them today as to what Polaris/Victory will do, if anything, on the EW... If not, well, I guess I'll buy a new roter and keep on truckin'.

I had a loose rotor this summer. It was loose in all directions, not just front to back but side to side as well. My dealership replaced it under warranty. To me that is not a wear item, it's a bad part!

sadly, I think it has been like that for a while, I just took note of it this last tire change. It rattles when you bounce the tire, and I recall it did the same thing 12,000 miles okay when I changed the tire back in June, but didn't know what made the noise. When I did it at the dealer I asked "what's that noise" the tech, "oh that's your rotor, it's bad." But after looking at it he said he saw much worse without issue.

Understanding the structure design I'm not concerned with it flying apart, but I would not want to put another 30,000 on it.
