Finally got around to making some changes to the scooter today. As is posted elsewhere on the site the First thing to do when installing the Tail Gunner Tips is toss the instructions!!!! Without taking off anything I installed the tips in less than 15 minutes, and that includes having to remove the first tip after I discovered I had installed it on the wrong side The trunk came off without a hitch after I finally located the wire harness connection which was well hidden but after I looked long enough it was right where it needed to be. It makes a HUGH difference in the looks as well as the way the bike handles with the trunk safely back in the garage. Only put on 25 miles but I can certainly fell the difference without the weight back there behind me. The trunk will be nice for long rides (this May I hope), but until then I'll be lookin like a Street Vision

I posted some pics in the gallery, enjoy....

Can you tell me if there are other panels that need to be loosened or removed in order to put the plate on in place of the trunK?

It doesnt sound that hard, I just dont understand the steps.

 Thanks.

My understanding is that first you need to remove the panel below the console and just forward of the seat. That exposes the mounting for the seat, which you then remove. Pull the seat a little forward to release the hold at the rear of the seat, then set the seat aside. Once the seat is removed, disconnect the necessary wiring for lights, speaker, etc. I was also told that it may be a good idea to remove the rear license plate bracket before removing the trunk, as it comes mighty close to the underside of the trunk, and may cause scratching during removal. After this is done, remove the bolts that hold the trunk to the bike, remove the trunk, and then reinstall the license plate bracket, the seat, the panel between the front of the seat and console, and finally the rear filler plate.

I'm going by memory here from what the owner at the dealership explained to me, but I'll be picking up my bike in a little over an hour, and time permitting, we will remove the trunk while at the dealership. I really want to do as much of the wrenching and maintaining as possible, so I elected to NOT have them remove the trunk for me for delivery of the bike.

The owner was really cool by donating his passenger backrest and Midnight Cherry filler panel in order to seal the deal for me. I've read the horror stories on here about delays in receiving accessories, and when I told the sales guy about it, he passed it on to the owner, and the owner offered it up. Pretty cool, huh?

Thank you, that was a great description.

I cut off the reflector portion of the plate holder so I may be able to get away with not removing it, but, just covering it during the "remove/install".

And congratulations on this special day, hopfully you will be able to ride all day long.

The license plate bracket needs to stay off until the coer plate is installed. You'll need to lift up the trim panel that surrounds the rear light assembly in order to get the panel in place under it. Once you've done the job once or twice, you can have it done (remove or install) start to finish in less than 30 minutes.
