| I test rode two of them, and I did not even know that the helmet locks were an option. Victory makes a big deal that you can fit two XL full face helmets in the trunk. Any chance that is what they were referring to? |

Posts: 74 College Station, Tx | Well I know that on my father's goldwing there are 2 locks that hook through the d-ring of a helmet strap and they located them under the back of the trunk. I hope that they did something like that on the vision and not just say that we can fit 2 helmets in the trunk because there are lots of times that I will have other stuff in there and not have room. |

I'll wager there will be no helmet locks. But something like that would be great for
you or I to make as an aftermarket accessory.

I hope they are only using that as a reference. When we travel on our Royal Star the trunk has other stuff in it. When we stop for lunch I like to lock the helmets up under it. |

Posts: 297 VA | I found this old thread from last year, and I was curious if anyone else has done any special mods to put a helmet lock on their Vision. My wife and I rode into D.C. for a Nationals game, and we parked in the garage. We didn't have that much stuff, so we could put both of our helmets in the trunk, but I had to move some stuff to the saddlebags. Hoping to do a longer road trip to North Carolina (I'm just south of D.C) and would really like to put helmet locks on the bike so I don't have to worry about putting the helmets in the trunk. At most restaurants I wouldn't really care if the helmets sat on the seat, but in big cities, I don't trust some a**hole not to steal 'em just bceause he can. If anyone came up with some good ideas, I'd love to see pics of them, or know if I could buy one or two. Thanks. |

Posts: 118 Capitol Region of NH | I don't believe there is any helmet locks on the Vision. I have been all over mine and don't see any. I think they are reffering to being able to put 2 full face helmets in the trunk. I installed a Helmet Guardian on mine, it attaches to the license plate bracket with tamper proof hardware provided. Gives you 2 keyed helmet locks on either side of the license plate. You just need to be careful putting you helmet in it so you lay the helmet gently on the bike. I suppose you could put a small towel or pair of gloves between the helmet and the bike.
Here is a link to one of many sites offering this item. http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/3864/

Posts: 297 VA | Yeah, I had already looked at mine and saw there was no locks. The trunk is fine when not on longer trips where I don't have much stuff, but I'd really like to be able to lock them up while eating or things like that. This looks like a good solution. Other than possibly scraping paint, how is it? Haw hard is it to get off and on? I know they make some aftermarket grip ends with them on, but I doubt they'll fit the grips on the Vision, so this might be the way to go. Thanks for the link. Anyone else who has anything else to offer it is appreciated. |

| Helmet locks don't stop someone from cutting the D-RINGS off of a $600 helmet and sewing another set on later. In a helmet law state, you are in a tough position to come back to your bike and have no helmet to ride out with. Just my 2 cents. Tim |

Tim I concur with you TimS, but most locks, on anything, are just a deterrant to keep honest people honest, and for insurance claims if one does get taken. The question the insurer will ask, was it locked? Yes, pay, no, no pay. |

Posts: 118 Capitol Region of NH | The helmet guardian works great. I had to take out the rubber bumpers behind the license plate and enlarge the holes they are in a couple of drill bit sizes and cut off the bolts that are provided. The bolts are long and don't look good left that way. They are tamper resistant bolts though so it takes a special allen wrench which comes with the kit. The locks work great and do not rattle as long as you keep them closed when going down the road. I have a chrome one, you may have to look around to find chrome if thats what you want instead of the black in the link. I also attached my license plate with nylon lock nuts so it is one more step to get the helmet lock off the plate bracket. I agree with both above that a lock only keeps the honest people from stealing. |

| That would work great for full face helmets. A little more to cut through than just 3/4" of webbing. Tim |

| I'm not sure about this, but I think there is a place to put a cable helmet lock in the area under the right saddlebag lid. There appears to be a cross cut notch where one could put one end of a cable helmet lock in and then secure it by closing and locking the saddlebag lid. I may be wrong, but it sure looks like the ones I've seen on some other bikes. |

Posts: 297 VA | I agree that any lock is really only a deterent. But, it's been my experience that some people will steal things not because they want them, but because it was easy to do so. Most people are pretty lazy, and if it takes any amount of work to get it, they won't put the effort into it. It's like having an alarm on a car. Professional car thiefs can bypass or disable those things in 30 seconds or less. But if you ask one why they stole one car over another, it was usually because it was easier to steal the one that was unlocked than to mess with the alarm. I could see some college aged kid walking out, seeing my bike, and my helmet draped on the handlebar or seat and thinking it was funny to take my helemt and have me get pulled over for not wearing a helmet. Lock it to something and now it's not as easy. I'm certainly not wearing any $500 helmet, I got a cheap but comfy HJC that I wear, but I am going to have an intercom in it here soon, and I'd just feel better that it was secured in some way. And yeah, I know they could easily take the intercom out of it, but it does prevent most people from taking it.
VIC, thanks for the update, any chance of seeing a picture with it installed, and maybe with a helmet attached to it? I kinda want the black anyways, so not a big deal. I saw the bolts in that picture and knew I'd ahve to cut them down. I had to use the lower two bolts on the plate bracket to secure the license plate since the top ones are just a little different size, adn when I went to the bottom, I had to be careful because there was so little space. I like the idea of the helmet lock. It'd be even nicer if they were somehow incorporated into the handlebar grips like Kurakyn has, but I could make do. It's not the ideal solution....that would have been Victory thinking of a way to incorporate it into the bike. I don't want to bad mouth the bike, because I do love it, but for as much time as they put into some of the details, like the tip over bars, you'd think they could have thought of some cool ideas or ways to add helmet locks. THe other thing I noticed while I was driving the other day on the first 80 degree day we've had since I got the bike is how hot the engine gets. I expected an air cooled engine to get hot while sitting at lights and such, but I was driving 70MPH and I was still getting quite a bit of heat. Enough so that I had to put my legs further out on the floorbaords to cool them down. My last bike was water cooled and it didn't have a fairing, so I know that these get a little more heat. I am curious though, do Harley Ultra Classics or Gold WIngs get that much heat? |

Posts: 256 Florida | Living in Florida, I can tell you first hand that this bike is not designed for stop and go traffic as the engine get hot quickly. On the highway though, even in 80-degree heat, it's okay. I was wondering if anyone knows of an easy way to add a thermostat or a guage to the bike that shows the engine temp. |
