Posts: 170 Houston, TX | I finally sold my Honda VTX 18F. I have been around a while reading the great information on this site. My dilemma now is whether to get a Vision or the Cross Country. I have test ridden a vision twice. Hands down it is the most comfortable ride I have even been on. (Been riding since I was 15) My real concern is that the vision has a number of features I am not tsure I need and the styling has been hard to get used to. I guess I'll need to wait to actually test ride a XC this winter to see if the comfort level is the same. Even though the XC has less luggage space Roy at Team Mancuso in Houston has said there will be a trunk available for 2011 (Like the XC Bagger). He said it just didn't make production for 2010.

storage of the Vision. Of course if you have a spouse/gf you can just have her wear
a small backpak, until the trunk is available!

It's not just the square inches or gals capacity that is mentioned, but the cross-roads/country bags are just big square boxes!!! I took some measurements, and granted I have a V92C... but I figured I could fit the contents of BOTH my Leathlyke saddlebags into ONE cross bag, and the contents of my Riggs Tourpack into the other. That's more than will fit on a Vision anywhere.

Oh, and SHIRLEY the Cross Country has 4,000 mile interval oil changes, and not the Vision's 2,500 mile intervals for service.

I'm just curious as I don't have a problem changin' mine every 2,500 to 3,000 miles as this engine cooks and slams as any V-Twin and want to keep the juice fresh. I note a distinct tickin' noise around 2,000 miles or so on Vic blood, and around 2,500 using the sin-thetic type. I hate to hear what it sounds like at 4,000 miles... wait, I did once, and at 5,000 and at 6,000.... and it wasn't pretty sounding... just curious as I've not read that info...

About $1000 in 3 years if you put on about 12,500 miles a year. I though it would be more.
Just for giggles, I did a spreadsheet. If the first service was at 2,500 miles, and the last one at 37,500, that would be 15 Services for the Vision. Now say it were ever 4,000 miles, I went up to 36,000 miles. That would be 9 services. My last service was $169. That is $2,535 vs $1,521
I have done all the maintenance on my Kawasaki VN2000 for 20,000 miles except fix some leaking O-rings on the radiator. With the Vision being new & all, I didn't want to void any warranties, and was thinking I needed the Dealership to do all the work. That is another inconvience in the interval.
2,500 miles is obviously more trips & drop offs at the dealership too. I drive 40 miles and 1 state away with the wife following me in her car on a Saturday. I drop off the Vision, and the wife brings home. On the following Saturday, the wife drives me the the dealership where I get dropped off. It is a pain, and 4,000 vs 2,500 would be much nicer.

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | It has to be more too it. the financials for the manufacturer is not the reason, as more oil changes means more money for them. so if you extend a service interval there must be a very technical reason. Does the 2010 engines run cleaner than the 2009 and prior, thus requiring a longer interval? I've changed my oil in two previous jeep cherokees every 3,000 miles and ran both well over 100,000 miles. One had nearly 200,000 miles and the other nearly 300,000 with no engine work done to them. the last one, I wasn't as robust in changing the oil and it just hit 101,000 miles and I lose the engine.
So, regardless of the financial aspect I do not want to get slack on my oil changes for the Bently (my Vision) and won't run much past 3,000 miles, if at all, even using a more expensive synthetic. So why does the manufacturer go from 2,500 miles to 4,000 miles on a like engine, just like that? There has to be change in casting and bearing material somewhere.
By the way, after blowing my jeep engine and talking with jeep "experts" I was on the money with the 3,000 mile oil change. I was told that jeeps are one of the dirtiest engines out there and they need to keep the oil changed for longer life verses other engines that can get away with not changing the oil for a long period of time.
