Posts: 394 Tucson, AZ | When I crank the gas on, I'm getting a chirping noise from the left front of the fairing. Any of you riders experienced this?
Thanks. |

There are a few people that will tell you that it can be corrected by simple belt alignment which is generally the case. Early bikes sometimes had problems with the actual rear pulley (such as mine) that mechanics could not remedy with alignment. In my case it turns out that the casting of the pulley was the culpret. So here is/are the fix(es):
Have the rear pulley aligned (you can follow the service manual and do it yourself too, if you like) and see if this eliminates the problem. Later bikes (09's) seem to have less frequent pulley manufacturing problems If that does not do the trick then it's time to look into getting another pulley. It is a known problem. I have had my pulley aligned (3) times. Twice it was done by Vic mechanics and once I did it myself. No successful elimination of the belt squeal/chirp by any of the alignments. I am now receiving a new pulley from Polaris via warranty. If you search the forums there is also a guy who specializes in belt drive remanufacturing. I've spoke with this guy on the phone an he is the real deal. He will mill out the teeth of the old pulley and replace them with a new composite strip. It's a very good process that will eliminate these problems but it cost $$$ (about $500 and you got to send in your pulley and wait). |
