I'm picking up my new 09 Tour Premium Saturday. Traded in my Versys. I don't care for the looks of the rear trunk, when I'm riding solo. Is it quick on and off or a major production?? If it's major, I'll just learn to love it.
I've been lurking all year. Then I test rode one last Saturday and pulled out the check book. Thought I would keep the Versys for errands, but the Vision was so easy to ride, I traded.
Thanks for your help!

Excuse my ignorance. Versys? As far as the trunk is concerned check out theVOG.net. ther's a video about the removal of the trunk. It's not a quick release but I believe it does take 20-30 minutes depending on your skill level.

Bluegill,

Welcome! As elvis441 said above, the trunk does come off but you will need the color matched panel that covers the hole where the trunk sits. An optional item is the wall hanging fixture that will allow you to hang the trunk on the wall when it is not on the Vision.

elvis441,
The Kawasaki Versys is considered a sport bike but is has high ground clearance. A guy at work had one and he liked it.

My Vesys was/is a Kawasaki "standard" (upright) street bike with a de-tuned Ninji motor. Needless to say, I was a liitle shocked by the lack of power of the Vision when I did my test drive. It's all a matter of what you are used to. The only uncomfortable thing was the heat. I am used to a watercooled machine with very little heat hitting me. Victory could hide a radiator real easy on the Vision. That would be cool. Solve a lot of problems. Tons more power with a watercooled motor.

20-30 is a bit long but correct if its your first time. I am down to about 12 minutes on a good day and 15 on a bad.

Don't worry, its not a thing!

When you remove the trunk the first time remember to take the L Plate off. When you have it off drill a couple of holes in the plate where it attaches to the rear so you can easily take off and on in the future. Have some cams installed and you will be amazed at the power difference. Install the lower wind deflectors for the heat, they work well in both hot and cold conditions. Black is the coorrect color!!!

Bluegill,
If you were the guy at the J&W ride then I met you there. Glad to see you make the switch.
I felt the Vision was lacking power as well AT FIRST. Then I realized the power delivery is so smooth it did not really feel as though it was moving as fast as it was. It is also close to 900 lbs and my guess would be thet the Versys is lighter and probably a different powerband curve from the Vision.
Just a thought. Good luck with the new bike see you around probably because I am in Fenton.

All VTwins make heat, nature of the beast. They also are not inlines so I wouldn't expect them to be as quick. The trunk is easy off, 5-10 minutes once you figure it out.

I guess the power can fool a person. My stepson rode mine (he has an Electra Glide) and came away very impressed. Thought it would keep up with a Screamin Eagle.

FYI,

As I have said before we are traveling the country with a motorhome and our Vision. Thus, when we are parked with the RV the only transpoetation we have is the Vision.(Thank goodnes) So, just returned from a huge grocery shoping escapade. For those who question the cargo space, We have packed as much as $220.00 worth of groceris on our vision from the military comessary.Thats is still riding two up.It is interesting to watch people come by and ask if we think we can get it all in there.Of course they always want talk about the bike.
I LOVE OUR 2008 VISION TOUR PREMIUM. 30,450 miles and still loving the travels!!!

Smadge

PS. These retired military guys in their 80s come over & want to talk about the bike they rode during their stint in Europe etc. It really is great talking to those true American heroes about the younger days. Their eyes light up and you can almost see them perk up as their mind travels back in time. WHAT A GREAT COUNTRY WE LIVE IN!!!!!! HOOOOAAAHH !!!!

Mr B. Gill there is no way you can kick me off my pedastal of (not) making friends. Black is slow, Blue is... I won't go there, Silver, hi ho, or hohum. Now white, there's a good looking Vision, almost as good as a the Midnight Cherry, still the favorite and the fastests....
