| Ok, I had the CB/Intercom installed back in April and it worked great the few times I used it up through June. Now, I go to use it Saturday for the first time since the end of June and I have lots of crackling and popping on receive and the guys I'm talking to (all on Honda Goldwings) say that my volume is very low and that they also hear static in my transmissions. My thinking is that there is either a loose connector on the ground or perhaps on the radio unit itself, any of you here with a CB have any similar problems? |

Posts: 8 Alabama | Have had the same problems since new...The dealer first replaced the headset jacks..didn't help at all.. Then they replaced the harness all the way back, hoping that the short was in it.. Still had the same problem.. I fixed the static with electrical grease on all of the headset jacks, that made the biggest improvement, second to making sure that the boom mic is seated all the way down on the 1/8th inch audio jack that is in the helmet mount( I didn't know that it was two parts, that was not explained in the instructions for the headset!!!). I can actually hear mine go out when I hit a bump while someone is transmitting. Finely the dealer ordered a new cb unit, haven't had it installed yet but that is the last thing to replace, if this doesn't fix it I don't know what will... I'll let you know as soon as i get it on.. by the way the low volume thing was fixed by making sure the boom mic was seated all the way.. |

The dealer kept working the issue with Victory and flashed the radio about 10 million times from what I understand in different order until most of the issue was resolved. The only thing that is still a problem is actually hearing the passenger from their mic. I can hear them but if the bike is running you cannot.
So, I would ask the dealer to make sure to call Victory and ask them for the plan and steps for reflashing and resolving this type of issue.

Since you have cracking and popping on both transmit and receive, it sounds like it could be a bad ground connection to the antenna to me. The ground strap for the antenna is grounded to the bike's frame by being captured under one of the trunk mounting bolts. Lift up the removable cover in the bottom of your trunk and look down into the well. You will see four bolts which hold the trunk onto the bike. The ground strap will be under one of them. Try loosening and retightening the bolt. You will need a long extension to do this. It's worth a try and costs nothing to do. While you're there, check the mounting bolts that secure the CB unit to the frame to see if they are tight and making a good ground connection.

THIS is the same issue I am facing. The dealer has been working it for 3 months now and even had the bike for a full week looking at it. It took many flashes of the radio before the rear could even hear me let alone me hearing the passenger. However, the fact that I hear the passenger is only a function of a whisper at best. As a matter of fact, I can barely hear the whisper since she is so close that I can still hear her talking so its NOT working.
IF/WHEN the dealer gets it right, I will be sure to drop a note here and let you know what fixed it.
Suffice to say, this has been a long, laborious and tedious thing for me. So much so, I actually want my money back. But that isn't going to happen any time soon if the dealer can help it! We'll see!
ITS FRUSTRATING to say the LEAST! |

I had a similar problem with my '03 Goldwing and all the problems were solved when the antenna ground strap was tightened up after coming loose (funny thing was the CB worked perfectly while sitting still with the engine stopped, the popping was from the ground strap moving up and down the mounting screws threads while riding). I spoke to my dealer, the fantastic Randy's Cycles in Huntley, IL, and Randy told me that the next time I stopped by he would have a mechanic take a look at the CB. |
