| I'm thinking ahead to the winter months, when riding is no longer possible. I live in northern Virginia, so winters are fairly mild when compared to northern states, but still, we will get snow & ice. I figure I can ride, with appropriate gear, until November. Once the meteorologists predict ice, then it's time to hibernate the bike. But how? I've never had to store a bike. I live in a condo, so will rent a short term storage rental. What preparation do I need to do for the bike? If it sits for long periods, what about the oil? Tires? Battery? Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Vince.\ |

Tavares, Fl | My winter storage is putting it on the trailer behind the fifth wheel and head south . But before that I never winterized a bike, and I've had many since the 60's. I always insure mine year round and if I got a sunny ,mild day I was gone.... |

Gettysburg, 2008 Tour Premium | Vince, Before I moved to PA I lived in the MD suburbs of DC and owned a townhome with no garage. Had a Goldwing at the time and bought a Cycleshell to keep the bike in. I used it all year round. I washed and waxed the bike and put it away for the winter and when unzipped in the spring it was spotless. Better than a garage because not dust collected even though it was vented to prevent moisture from developing.

LONDONDERRY NH | This is what I would use for indoor unheated storage. I use one for my car and there is no condensation or rust at all--

| I agree with you that winters are mild, but do you continue to ride when there's snow and ice on the roads? If you do, then you are indeed a brave soul. My bike goes into storage under those conditions and will remain there until there is no more threat from that problem, so I posed my original question, as I'm a little unsure of how to store a bike. thanks, Vince.

San Antonio, TX | I was hoping that some our Canadian Vision Rider would jump on this thread. I have also been told of one Vision in Yellow Knife (only four months of riding weather). I want to say that when they come out of storage you need to carefully test the brakes.
I have heard of Rear Brakes going to the floorboard after a winter storage.

| keeping it climate controlled or a good coat of waxs is important for cosmetics and some waxes you can leave on for the winter. For the mechanical part you can spray wd 40 in the cylinders to help prevent rust forming around the rings and in the spring start the bike let it run for a couple of minuites and change the oil this will collect any condisation internaly and get it out. put a battery tender on for the winter. if the brakes bleed by then there is other problems. i store over 30 bikes a winter and have nevr had thr barakes fall off |

New Bohemia, VA | yeah, that brake thing seems to be Victory unique and there is a problem that needs to be corrected. being around things with brakes most of my life that has always indicated a problem that needs to be dealt with. |
