I guess I originally posted this in the wrong area of the web page.... my bad..... I'm a biker, not a computer geek......

Has anyone tried removing the inner fairings to allow more cool air to flow through the lower fairing and over the rider's legs? How does it look? Does it fix the hot leg problem? Does the engine over-heat?

The guys at Napalm Motorsports in Austin, Texas added a vertical row of round, louvered vents to the inner fairings on their totally chromed out anniversary edition bike to allow more air flow over the rider's legs. If that works why didn't (doesn't) Victory offer replacement inner fairings with vents?

Before I take the time to remove mine (its not a ten minute job) I thought I would check to see if anyone had already tried it.

i have found that with the lower wind deflectors angled all the way inward clears up my hot leg issue. in the winter, have them faired all the way out and keep that warm air around you...works way good. i dont think id mess with the fairing without testing, may take away too much cooling air off the motor...but im just guessing

Thanks. I don't have the add-on wind deflectors (yet). I'm referring to the inner fairings.... the brushed aluminum boomerang shaped piece just above and forward of the motor on each side..... the piece with the lighted Victory badge in the middle of it. I share your concern about taking cooling air away from the motor, but on the other hand, my Kingpin doesn't have lowers at all and it obviously does just fine. I wish Victory sponsored a chat room like this so we could get information from their engineering team.

I remember reading about a fellow rider here who put air vents in his fairing but that it did very little to help with cooling, etc. Looks like the lowers is the answer here for our vision.

Lowers is the only way to go without destroying visual aesthetics of the bike. Keep in mind that the inner fairing also has the lighted Victory badge attached to it. Just get the lowers, you'll be more then happy.

No offense to those of you who already have the add-on wind deflectors, but THEY destroy the aesthetics of the bike in my opinion. Victory did such an awesome job on the aerodynamic styling of the bike I hate to ugly it up with such bulbous appendages.

...... loving my new Vision Tour Premium........ wishing Victory would hurry up and offer a fix for "hot legs"......

Not offended, but have you actually seen the clear lowers ON A BIKE?? They are hardly visible especially when you have them pulled all the way in for the summer to clear out the engine heat. Now the black or chrome ones I can see that you would think that, but I think
the clear ones are pretty cool. But what do I know, im jus here ta look purty............ where's my beer bitch......

i'm usually a functional person, practical that is, so I don't buy a lot of chrome and stuff as it has no practical purpose. I do have the trunk rack that should have came standard on the trunk. the lowers are "practical" but I can't find myself rushing to get them.

they do detract from the looks of the bike IMHO and the clear plastic looking ones are very Wingish looking. Of course this is my opinion, but I find the solid chrome or billet ones to look more like they belong on the bike, but they are glued on, but not on my bike. I think there is a cure for the hot legs but I have to test my theory, which will probably fail. until then, I ride happily no matter how hot it gets without them.

Here is an old thread that talks about modifying the inner fairing.

http://www.vision-riders.com/bb/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=1569&pos...

I have the lower and I love them. They work. I ride every day in San Antonio, TX and we have had a record breaking summer of heat. Our previous record was 44 days of over 100 degrees. This year we have had over 60 days of over 100 degree heat.

Thanks for the comments and especially the link to the past thread on this subject. That mod is EXACTLY what I was thinking of trying. I'm going to go ahead and remove the "swoosh" fairings for my upcoming trip to the Ozarks. If it looks horrible with them off (and I suspect it will) I will trim them and put them back on. Thanks again!

Yes, I have seen a bike just like mine (gray '08 tour premium) with the clear wind wings. I'm sorry, but I think it looks bad......... but then you must understand......... I'm a recovering Harley chrome-aholic so I still occasionally worry about looking good in the parking lot of biker bars.

I have not tried it but I am like the idea of what they did in Austin. Pictures anyone?

Check with Arizona Victory, they have the left inner fairings cutout for exchange. I have one on my 08 Vision and it has helped with the heat. I ride in the Tucson heeeeat.

The only time I have an issue with the engine heat is when I'm stopped at a loooong traffic light......nothing will help in that situation.

And it does get HOT here in the Lone Star State.

I saw pictures of the round vents in the inner fairing on the "chromed out anniversary edition" on line about a month ago, but I can't find them now. You might e-mail the guys at Napalm Motorsports.

Well if chrome is the issue, check out the pix on the main forum regarding lowers. You will see some lower deflectors in chrome.
