| Hi all,
I bought our Vision in June and have since put 2k miles on it and have enjoyed every mile. One item that is troubling is the exhaust note, or lack of. In stock form, it sounds like the worlds largest sewing machine. I've heard clips of the s1L1 and L2 configurations but still, the idle is still very generic and weak.
What I'm looking for is a deep, bassy idle.....I know it's not a Harley, I'm not after the potato,potato...but I do like the deep bass note that several pipe manufacturers achieve with the Harleys. Is there some inherent design with the engine that interferes with getting this sound?
Although it is a fairly new bike, I'm a bit disappointed in the lack of options for pipes. I hope the major exhaust manufacturers begin to offer Vision options soon.
Thanks,
Scott |

Mine made that clickity-tickity noise until I replaced my gaskets, but it lessened when I kept the nuts tight. I runs quieter now, but I know that is not what you are looking for. The sewing machine comment made think that you might be experiencing also an exhaust leak like I did for nearly two years. |

| Can't agree with you more. The two choices Vic have suck. Did you check out Ness or RPWUSA? http://www.rpwusa.com/RPW-USA-victory.htm
I like the 2 into 1 they have with the fake pipe on the left side. They also have a clip of how it sounds on U-Tube. The thing that fries my behind is the price I paid for the L2 pipes. I think I will cut the baffle in half and give that a try and see how it works. |

| Cycle Dragon in Cerritos CA does their own pipes and they are a nice healthy low rumble. $400. I like them. If you are ever in the area you are welcome to come by and hear them. I am only a few miles away from Cycle Dragon. (they are a sponsor on here too). The pipes are not LOUD, they are low and mellow...but much better then stock. |

| Thanks for the suggestions on the other pipes guys. Yes I have checked them out, well, at least what's on YouTube and really, the majority of recordings really don't do the pipes justice. Phone cameras/videos just don't cut it
My current choices are down to two: Big Honkers and Cycle Dragons. Again, what's on youtube for the Honkers really is not a good recording. As I understand it, the Honkers have the following issues:
1) Possibly a bit too loud - I came off an 1800N VTX with straight pipes and they were LOUD. My better half would much rather I stay away from that side of the sound meter. I keep reassuring her that what I'm after is a good, deep vtwin sound...not blatty volume.
2) I thought I read somewhere that the honkers benefit from using velocity cones?
For the Cycle Dragons:
1) Tuneable - from what to what I guess is the question. Fully baffled I've read that they are just a tad louder than S1L2 so I guess that does give some leeway in getting a deeper sound by adjusting/removing baffle material. Again the clips I've heard really didn't seem much different than the S1L2's although they were recorded without any changes made to the baffling.
I live in Saratoga County New York and was looking forward to hearing what others had done to their Visions at Americade, but this year, it was hard finding other owners let alone someone who had changed to either pipes.
Anyway, I won't be making the pipe upgrade until next year, along with Lloyds intake and VFCIII which I hope to have done by Lloyds shop. Hopefully, other better recordings will surface and/or other pipes will be introduced for the Vision.
BTW: does anyone know how well the Vision has sold for Victory? From what I gather, it's been a success but I'm not sure to what degree.
Thanks again to everyone who responded!

Posts: 244 Fargo, ND | There is one other option. There is a gentleman who I believe belongs to this forum and does a modification to your stock Vision mufflers, allowing the use of the Gatlin tips. They are supposed to give a nicer sound than either the S1L1 or S1L2 that Victory offers. The good news is it only costs $200 plus shipping. The only downside is that you have to send in your mufflers, so unless you have a spare set, you'll have some downtime. Here is a link to his ad on ebay. It also contains a UTube link so you can hear what they sound like compared to the S1L1 and S1L2. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270431744187&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT I do have a spare set that I'll be sending in very soon, so I'll report back how they sound.

| I agree with the Big Honkers not being to loud. I wish mine were louder. Go with the Ness Honkers for sound quality and $, if you ask me $400 for pipes? That's about as cheap as you can get and there quality pipes. or should i say mufflers. |

Posts: 3 Evergreen, CO | I have the Victory S1L2 pipes on my Vision and as many - found them to be fairly mild (much more mild than I had expected). I followed a link here and took the baffles out (which isn't hard once you get the two hold down screws removed and use two small nail pullers to rotate the baffle and pull it out). Then I bought two sheets (12" x 18" of 22 gage weldable steel from Ace Hardware and wrapped it around the complete length of the baffle. I then installed a number of clamps to hold the steel wrap in place. The baffle perforations are completey covered and the sound transmittted from the engine is much improved. Basically it provides a much lower rumble at lower rpms and then slightly louder as you get on the throttle. Much, much better than the stock S1L2, but not too obnoxious. I realize that in purchasing a aftermarket exhaust for the Vision, you might have an expectation not to have to muck with it. I bought mine with the S1L2, so I never expereinced the stock muffler sound, but I imagine it must be pretty whimpy. I was dissappointed in the S1L2 until my modification. |

| Justbob,
I did find the reference/part # for the Arizona Victory Slammer Exhaust. Have you listened
to them personally? Does anyone else here either have them or have heard them? $899
is pretty steep.
Question regarding the Honkers: can the baffling be added/removed? I know the Cycle Dragons
can but just wondering, even if it is not as 'simple' a procedure as with the Dragons?
Regards,

Posts: 162 Extreme Southern, AZ United States | Yes I have listened to them. The mechanic there, I forgot his name (damned old age) had them on his bike. They have basically the same tone as the Honkers, but are much louder. He told me that they give better low end torque and do not mess with the top or middle ranges. They also are cheaper than the Honkers I believe. I would have had them if they'd a had them ready when I got my bike. They brought them out a week or two after I got the bike. |
