Posts: 1117 Northeast Ohio | I have been considering getting my CCW license and know that many of you shoot or maybe considering carrying a concealed weapon while you travel.
Riding back from North Carolina, the WU and I stopped at a gas station just north of Beckley WV to get out of the rain for a bit. As we approached the gas station overhang, I noticed 6 motorcycles doing the same. As we dismount, the riders, all wearing colors, came out of the gas station minimart. At least one started to scowl at the Vision and he wasn't happy we were there. It was a very uneasy feeling as we were riding alone.
While there wasn't an altercation, I keep thinking what if these featured gangland riders wouldn't have been so nice.
I know many of you ride a lot more than me and just wondered your thoughts. |

Posts: 639 Tri Cities, WA | yes was my vote. I carry all the time and have a conceld weapons permit (CWP). I work in a field that puts me near dirt bags everyday. So I know whats out there and I would never leave home without it. Way to many psyhco's and freaks out there that just want to do you, your family, and property harm trust me, so yeah i carry and will always carry. I have got myself out of some very ugly shit over my 44 years on this planet just becasue they knew (seen) I was armed. Just understand not all conceld weapon permits are legal in other states. Example my WA state CWP is no good in Oregon. Most cops wont F-with you if you are polite and respectful and atleast have CWP or CCW in your case but they can get ugly if they want. Ride safe or rider safer with a CWP. Just my thoughts.

Even some friends of ours that are in high up in law enforcement leave the weapons at home. Just too much hastle at the border, and the hastle is usually coming back into Canada.

Of course the crooks we elect here in Illinois (being a crook is a prerequesite in Chicago) don't want us to have concealed weapons. It is worth noting that they are all protected by armed security while in session. The number one hypocrite is Mayor Daley that constantly crusades against citizen ownership of firearms. His armed security did detain for arrest one of the escaped crooks that wandered onto his vacation property last week. All Chicago aldermen (ok, alderpersons) can legally carry concealed weapons. I would hope that in the future the rest of the country remembers that no politician from Illinois should ever be voted into office in a federal election. We need another category to vote for, which is my position. That would be, "I don't discuss the subject." I definitely would rather be in legal trouble than the morgue though. |

| Legally I can't carry in Illinois, that said though, I follow the letter of law when it comes to legally transporting my personal firearm, it is unloaded and in a compartment separate from the ammunition, yet IF a situation arises I can access it and load it a subtly and fast enough to defend my life. The key wording in Illinois law is the definition of the word "case". |

| The SOG is always in my pocket. I'm still trying to figure out a decent way to carry my choice - fanny packs may be the only option, and my piece is a bit bulky for the vest pocket. Can't carry open because I have CCW permits. I'm about half thinking of a Makarov or LCP something similar, but everything is about money. |

| Is the trigger pull on the .32 any lighter than the Kel Tec 9mm? I had one of those and sold it as I found it so difficult to shoot I couldn't hit the side of a barn. I have a Tarus titanium .38 harmerless that's light as a feather and a Glock 19 but I'd like something smaller in a semi auto to carry in a pocket. |

| I've had the Kel Tec and the Makarov, as well as an Ultra Compact by Springfield. Neither the Kel Tec nor the Mak are good for anything but inside 5 yards- and then it's still a sporting chance. With a Commander size .45, the odds are much more in my favor. |

| Not much point in CCW if you tell everyone....
There are a number of problems with carrying when riding. Riding local isn't much of an issue if you have your license/permit, but travelling from state to state can be a problem unless you plan very carefully. There are several good carry websites that list reciprocity agreements by state, and/or rules for concealed carry in each. Damn shame two long time Republicans crossed the isle and voted no to the recent legislation allowing universal CCW amongst states. Sure would have made life easier, and been more Constitutional. |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | Keltec .32 is a strong pull but it has to do with no safety. It is small so not to have a large profile. It don't matter if you know I carry or not, I suspect that IF I would ever have to use it on anyone it wouldn't be a vision rider.
The ccw should be aware of all laws and it is easy to be sure you are in compliance, break it down and seperate the ammo, making sure you can't get to it easily.
Do not cross any international borders with it PERIOD. Mexico you will be jailed.

Posts: 447 Cleveland, GA | Kel-tec .380 always (in my coat pocket) and often a S&W 9mm in a shoulder holster too. Also a spring-loaded SOG Flash II knife.
Got stopped for making a U-turn by local LEO in Tennessee last September while I was on leave from Kuwait. My wife and I were traveling on the Vision, pulling a trailer. When he came up on my right side and asked for my license I told him, "For your safety and mine you need to know that I am armed and have an Alabama license to carry. My wallet is inside my jacket in a pocket next to my pistol. If you don't mind, I will SLOWLY reach in and take out my wallet..." I did and we had a nice conversation about different states' carry application procedures and he let me go on my way with a warning. (Okay, so I didn't mention the one in my jacket pocket or the one in my wife's purse... More info than he needed to know at the time.) |

Posts: 725 Reno County, KS | I have no problem disclosing my choice to exercise the 2nd Amendment. My CC peice is a good ol' dependable .357 mag wheel gun (Ruger SP101). As mentioned, not carrying for fear of someone trying to steal or damage my vehicles. That's up to them if they wanna chance being caught by the law. If they come after ME or someone near to me, that is my "just" cause and boundry. Generally when I've been stopped, the LEO's ask if I am carrying since; evidently, my CCW shows up on DMV record. I'm honest with them and that's usually it. I usually only take it with me on road trips since I live in the country. |

| I was carrying in Oregon in the early 90's as soon as Oregon became a "shall issue" state. Since then I've secured a permit in every state I've lived. Lately I've begun to take projects on federal property, which poses a problem since you cannot have a weapon on the premises.
Sometimes I'm called in unexpectedly, which poses a problem- where to secure the weapon? I haven't come up with a good solution yet. |

Believe it or not a new rule went into effect in January after the inauguration, which came as a complete surprise that it was allowed to pass at all, that allows those that have legal CCW permits to continue to carry in national parks and federal forest lands. I was surprised because Obama actually held a news conference about letting it come into effect, my bet is though that the anti-gun left is just giving this tidbit to cover for the real proposals they are going to come up with in the next few years. |

| I'd seen that, and was surprised- I've been shooting on BLM land for decades, and with cops.
But the properties I'm working on lately are substantially more restrictive than forest and parks.
Regardless, I think the battle for personal defense rights will go on forever.

Posts: 137 Houston, Texas | As a retired LEO I am fortunate to be able to carry nationwide (thanks to Chapter 44, 18 USC 926C) and I certainly don't leave home without one. Had a run in several years ago with some 'Bandidos' (one of which I had put in the pen for several years) while out on my bike and was glad it was handy although it didn't come to that.
My Beretta 92 is to large to carry concealed so I downsized and carry a Taurus Millennium PT 111....just right.

My normal carry is a Kimber CDP Pro, a Commander size 1911. I've owned many Kimbers from a Custom to a Gold Combat and found them to be accurate, reliable, and well-made. I've competed with the Gold Combat without any failures. |
