Posts: 446 East TN | OK, now that I have seen the light and bought a new 2009 Vision....I have a few questions specific to some systems.
First, on the CB/intercom system is; does the intercom work via both VOX AND PTT or just PTT? Anyone have pictures of there mic jack locations and controls? If so, can you post them, please?
How does the linked braking help with stopping? Are the factory brake pads good enough to handle most; if not all, emergency braking situations?
With the release of the 2010 accessories and the Zumo 660 GPS, did I read correctly that it would NOT provide audio on the 2009 models?
What is the best iPod type device to get that can handle at least 8 Gb of music? iTouch or an iPod nano? cheapest too (where)? That both charges and plays....
Anything else I need to know about the Vision, I test rode one for about 30 minutes and have followed a buddy twice now through the Dragon and Cherohala Skyway (Just amazed at how nimble the Vision is)
Thanks in advance,

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | I'll chime in on a few questions. One the intercom works on VOX and PTT, the CB only works off of PTT. I keep my VOX set around 9 or 10 and it seems to work well. 8 or lower is activated by the wind.
Link braking? I have learned to love the linked braking and find that with practice works very well in any given situation. Knowing how to ride also means knowing how to stop, so practice is the best way to be ready for the unexpected situation. The factory pads are fine for me.
congrats on pulling the trigger.

Now that the new (but not currently available) iPod cable can charge the newer iPods, I need to revise the PDF file attached to the thread.

The linked brakes work basically by applying as much brake power as you want on the brake you're hitting and a little braking power on the one you aren't. This helps keep the brake power balanced. It's a lot more technical than that, but I figured you wanted the nickel answer rather than the twenty-five cent answer .
As to being good enough in an emergency situation... I'm going to say yes. I've had a couple of close calls with people pulling out in front of me and was able to hit the binders without any loss of control or hitting the offending vehicle. I month ago I took the Experienced Riders Course offered by the MSF and they spend a lot time with you practicing braking. Of all the touring bikes in the class mine stopped the quickest, by far. The instructors were quite surprised the first couple of times. I spent the rest of the time actually trying to get the tires to squeal to a stop, but the best I could get was an itty-bitty chirp.

The Nano is the best to get. It's cheaper for one thing. There are some people that are using iTouches or iPhones, but to the best of my knowledge both of those devices have hard drives. You definitely do not want to use a hard drive device on the motorcycle because the vibration will eventually ruin it. I used an iPod Classic (HDD) for a couple of months and now I have a few dead spots where the music won't fully record to. | |
