| I only ask because i was out for 3 days on the BlueRidge Parkway for 3 days last week. Past 3 visions......not one of them waived. Got more love from wingers and HD guys. Not that a waive makes my world go around, but I hope we (meaning vision riders) dont go down the road of becoming a snotty better than you riding group that I often found Bemmer riders to be.
had to vent, thanks.

I wave to one and all riders on two wheels.....if possible. If I am on the clutch or if pilot load is too great I might miss a few bikes that go by.
Sometimes I am just scanning and watching traffic.
Yesterday, man my age in a pickup received most of my attention because he changed lanes three times in a half a mile, in moderate traffic without once using a blinker. There was no reason for him to change lanes....traffic was not slow in front of him, he was not on the phone and there was no where to turn off the road. Regardless of his reasons...I had to watch him since I could not predict his actions.
During this time two bikes rode by going the other way and I did not wave.
I wanted to ask him why he drove with his head up his.....but I was in a hurry and did not have the time.

Posts: 742 North Orange County CA | I wouldn't call myself ex-BMW as I still have a '72 R75 in the stable (although I will admit to not having even started it since I bought the Vision). I can remember a day when many traditional BMW riders didn't consider the K-bike a real motorcycle and treated them (and their riders) with a certain degree of thinly veiled contempt. The intent was an attempt to return the apostate rider to the one true religion, as represented by the "Church of the Horizontally Opposed Twin".
See #3 below.
TOP 10 REASONS WHY BMW RIDERS DON'T WAVE BACK:
10. New Aerostitch suit too stiff to raise arm.
9. Removing a hand from the bars is considered "bad form".
8. Your bike isn't weird enough looking to justify acknowledgement.
7. Too sore from an 800-mile day ride on a stock "comfort" seat.
6. Too busy programming the GPS, monitoring radar, listening to Ipod, XM, or talking on the cell phone.
5. He's an Iron Butt rider and you're not!
4. Wires from Gerbings are too short.
3. You're not riding the "right kind" of BMW.
2. You haven't been properly introduced.
1. Afraid it will be misinterpreted as a friendly gesture
Of course there are equally funny lists for Harley owners, Goldwing owners, etc.
I personally am a "waver" (when, it's safe), but I have to remember that there is a lot of real-estate on the front of the Vision which blocks half hearted attempts from being seen. The Vision forces you to fully commit when you wave. |

Posts: 1158 Richmond, Virginia | The happy day I bought my RT1100 BMW was only shadowed by the day I sold it . BMW makes a darn good bike, but is it exciting, draws attention, makes me dream about it.........NO just like BMW cars, nicely built but no more exciting then a Honda Accord.
As for the waiving part. I too try to wave to everyone that passes. If i am not in the position to wave, I dont want them to think im not the "waving friendly kinda guy" so i at least tip my head so that they can see that I saw them. I have however noticed some
interesting factoids. I am not however stating this to piss anyone off, or open a whole dialog about it but here in Virginia here is
what I myself notice.
1. Women on bikes do not wave with the frequency of men driving bikes.
2. Harley Bikers wearing trailor park attire (wife beaters, bubba jeans, and a fake pony tail in a doo rag) will not wave unless you
own a similar bike and are dressed the same.
3. A Harley owner wearing bike dress appropriate attire WILL WAVE (so go figure that out).
4. Black bikers N E V E R friggen wave. I dont think its a race thing because in my riding gear you cant tell my ethnicity.
so perhaps its "just a black thing".
5. A passenger on a bike rarely waves, apparently she feels that it is for the driver to do the Howdydoo wave
6. Ive never seen a Victory owner in passing who didnt wave. In fact they seem to get so excited at seeing another one of us, that
they almost come off the bike with enthusiasm.
7, Scooter people......................well, they always look like they are fearing for their lives and waving is just not even a thought |

4. ............... because in my riding gear you cant tell my ethnicity.
Are you sure? I can think of any number of outfits that scream "un-cool old white guy" at any speed.
Then again maybe its the "Vision Curb Feelers" or the "Pure Polaris Chrome Kleenex Dispenser "that Victory sent you that gives you away. |

it is the Black species who use curb feelers not us pastey white boys..... but I digress.... its all about the chrome |

Posts: 266 Hartland, , WI | Had a BMW LT...was a great bike I miss a number of the features and performance of the bike but a lot of good that will do you with a horse-shit imovable foot position/knee killer...just like on the GW. But living here in HD country 85% of the bikes I pass are HD and their profile is:
Rarely find one out just riding by themself apparently they aren't a "somebody" unless there are 3 or 4 in a group. They rarely have on helmets and are all about what they look like vs. practical items that improve comfort and safety...so they don't have anything blocking the wind and are holding on for dear life as the wind tries to knock them off the bike with their eyes tearing-up because their cool shades don't do shit.
I wave when waved at...when my significant other rides on the back I tell her to wave at everyone that passes...she loves it! Basically if I pass a solo rider he/she usually waves but put them in a group and they think "they are too sexy for their shirt". |

1. a bath
2. deodorant
3. conditioner for HER straggly ass hair
4. a shirt with sleeves
5. 6 sessions with a therapist for help with being alone
6. cialis, lavetra, or the purple pill
7. the defining definition explaining the difference between sexy and slutty

Posts: 72 Newberry, Mi. | Wow Vinner1, you're about as opinionated as tose you describe. Weather or not someone prefers a helmet or a windscreen is entirely up to them. I prefer not to wear a helmet because a helmet reduces peripheral vision and and sounds around you. More than 90 percent of all fatalities in an automobiles are due to head injuries. Should there be a helmet law for automobiles? Truth is, helmets and windscreens are a choice for the rider to make. I also prefer the the experience of the wind in my face so I ride a bike for that experience. Perhaps the riders you speak of are complete noobs and don't buy the proper sunglasses that will actually work. I have no tearing problem when I ride.
I will ride with anyone and wave to anyone at any time. The only people I chosse not to associate with are those that pass judgement on others or have an elitist attitude.
Or those that enjoy mocking any particular goup of riders!

I wave at everyone, unless my left hand is busy with the clutch or I'm distracted by traffic. Most times I try to figure out what kind of bike is coming at me, too.
Today I was out on the V, in a wife beater shirt (it's 105 in Vegas today) and almost every HD rider waved. Saw two Visions (or the same one twice) and they both waved, as well as about half the crotch rockets. Here, it seems the only time people stop waving is when Bike Week is on, and many of the riders are visitors. |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | I get acknowlegement from some harley riders, but it is not always positive.
BTW, if I don't wave it is only because I'm paying attention to the traffic around me because of erractic drivers on cell phone, putting on make up, eating, disciplining the kids, arguing with the SO, changing the iTune play list, checking email, texting, reading maps, reading books, etc, etc. The ones really paying attention to their driving is trying to be "first" so I just stay out of their way. I question on how do you be first on a highway over 1,800 miles and is always moving? |

| maybe I shouldn't have referenced Beemer riders, they just seem to be the less likely to waive of all makes and models of bikes.
I was only sayin, if a Vision can't wave to a Vision, i can imagine what will be thought of this group if we are or become knows as a general group of snobby riders.
and yes.....THEY DID SEE ME,...even blew the horn at one at a intersection, just got a jerkoff stare, he was on a 10th ann |
