Posts: 432 Gettysburg, 2008 Tour Premium | I know this has been posted here before but it seems when discussed all relative help brakes down to that "installing the injector connectors would make the 'Pope' cuss." I understand. The connectors are barely visable and I do not believe removing any body panels will help with access. It does look like removing the rocker covers would help but they dont look super easy. I have mostly done my own work on everything from Harley's to Goldwings with exception of bucket and shim valve adjusments because buying the tools/parts is a little pricey.
So for those that have done this a couple of questions:
1) Any tips on tools ie. picks, screwdrivers, pliers that make the job easier?
2) Do you take anything else off to help in access?
3) maybe a Question for Kevinx, what is your present stand on leaving the O2 sensors connected? If disconnecting the O2 sensors should I connect the VFC harness to the O2 connectors or is that of no use?
4) If leaving the O2 sensors connected is the programming for the VFC changed to compensate?

Posts: 68 Cabot Arkansas | When I put mine on I removed the center console to install the airfilter and I ran the wires for the vfc along the frame and down to the injectors I used a long test light that was about a foot long to get the plugs unlocked and off. The biggest issue is getting the retainer for the injector plug to unlock and get the plug to move before it locks back. Patience is a virtue with this, once you get the plugs loose the rest is easy. It says to unplug the O2 sensors which will put the bike into a lean condition which the vfc will fix with the adjustments. aA far as leaving the O2 connected you might as well not put the vfc on because as i understand the computer will fight the vfc to keep the fuel map that the computer knows. Kevinx/Lloyd can give us more info on this part. |

Posts: 1340 Gainesville Fl Home of the Gators | A very long flat tip, and a set of long needle nose pliers are your best friends for a VFC install. Remember the red lock tab goes straight up before you can pull the conectors.

| Just added the plate and VFC to mine like Kevin said long screw driver and needle nose hooked pliers, only problem I had was grabbing to deep on the injector.
Because of this I took off the side panels by following instructions, the 10mm screw behind the mirror took me forever to find with my glasses on.
Thanks Mr.X and Jeff @ Street Sports for telling me the mirror screw was really there.

I have a bunch of different shaped pliers but none over 6", also have a 20" flat blade but it is kinda heavy duty. I believe in having the right tools and I will get them before I start if it helps. |

You got it. The flat tip is to lift the lock tab, and then you can reach in with the long needle nose, and gently lift while using the flat tip again to push the tab on the injector. If you can get a second person then you can work from both sides of the bike. Really a bit of a PITA, but easier then on the steel frame bikes |
