I'm sure my wife will like the arm rests on the long rides.

But $850 for a GPS? What makes this GPS unit better than a less expensive model? Is it because the audio from the GPS plays over the stereo?

I have a 10th which comes with a Garmin. Its thicker & not quite as nice looking as this new one but I think even the one I have costs you over $800 if you buy it separate from the purchase of the bike. & yes the audio from the GPS is pumped through the stereo. I know it's high but I like it a lot better then the ones I've seen people add where they mount to the handle bars & such.

I sure hope they are gonna offer those arm rests. They look sweet!

I guess it's kind of silly of me to whine about the cost of a good GPS unit that integrates well with the Vision.

I'll have to sock the extra cash away for the GPS and all the other mods I want to make. Lloydz will get a good chunk of my "mods" budget.

well, you may find one cheaper but I jus think it's silly for these guys to buy a different gps then mount it to the handlebars, usually close to clutch, when all the visions have that area on the center console that was put there specifically for a gps unit & if you opt to put one on the bars then you still have that giant bare spot.

I mounted mine in that bare spot, but I couldn't see spending $1,000 for the out-of-date Garmin they were selling to go there. I bought a Ram "Aqua Box" which fits my exisiting TomTom Go720. I mounted a Ram ball on the dash, and then attached the aqua box. I think the box cost me $45. I made my own wiring harness for power and audio, did the whole thing for less than $60. Plus, I just use the same GPS for my bike and car, so it's a little easier to manage one.

That sounds fine! That's what that area is for. I would probably not have spent over $800 on GPS unit had I had to buy one. Mine's kinda bulky but it works great so....

Here is a picture of the armrest...

I'm kind-of disappointed.. Really looks like an after-thought!

Because they clamp onto the hand rails, they will be easy to install.

I showed them to my wife and she said she wasn't interested. She said, "why put all that stuff on a motorcycle? you might as well take the car."

Well the passenger says armrests will help keep her more secure when she falls asleep back there. Whatever makes her happy.

on the zumo 660, would the '08, '09 require a change in wiring for it to intergrate? And then would it allow a zumo 550 work?

I wonder if they will be cheaper through Kuryakyn? Since it looks like the manufacture of these armrest.
Just like they did with the "Victory" grips, pegs.....

Bungie cords are cheeper! Thats what I use when it is nap time in the back seat. Then she don't fall out, or bang me in the back of the head when she falls forward.

Counter point --- If Victory would have went with the 450 or 550 to start with, it wouldn't have been an issue ... you see, prior to buying the Vision, I had a 550 with my other bikes... Why would I buy older or even, graciously, I would say, equivalent technology for more $'s ? That's silly to me.. I didn't feel like drilling into the bike to make my Zumo fit their setup either. I have it installed with the ram mount provided by Victory and the Ram mount provided by Garmin. If I trade it in, I take it with me with no extra holes in the bike, or an empty mount in the console, it still has a clean look..

Joker, tell her that the cup holder is located under the right armrest, it pivots out and has a swing down band so that it can hold a bottle or leave the band up and it will hold most of the typical tapered thermal cups with lids.

So, my questions are: has anyone actually seen some of these arm rests mounted? Are they adjustable and in which directions and how far? Are they easy to mount and to remove? My SO wants them but only if they will increase her comfort level?

I just talked to my dealer (Randy's Cycles in Huntley, IL) and pre-ordered a set. I was told that they will start being sent out to dealers on September 25th of this year. These armrests are basically a variation of the ones that Kury-Akyn manufactures for the Honda 1800 Goldwing, there is no real adjustment, just the ability to pivot them outwards so that the passenger can get on or off easier.

I got my 2820 for $199 off a close-out site, but the 660 sure does look nice!

It looks like from the picture they clamp onto the grab rails, so Victory having a clamp made for the Kuryakyn arm rests to use. So if they are a clamp on there maybe some forward slide that can be claimed as adjustability.

$800 for a GPS....that's nuts. Sorry guys I'll stick with my refurbished 2720 that cost me $100 buck. I can buy a lot of gas for $700. That's a cross country trip!

Rob41,

You can buy the Garmin 2820 from a 3rd party source for a lot less than what Victory sells it for.  You can buy the Vision mount and harness kit from Victory and install it yourself (or have your dealer do it).  After the mount and harness is installed, you just bolt the 2820 on it.  Amazon.com has the 2820 for $375, not $1,000 like what Victory wants for it.

When I bought my 2008, Victory was selling the rebadged, already discontinued Garmin 27XX version for $1,200.  Go figure.  My dealer was a little upset that I did not pay $1,200 for a discontinued model when I could get the newest model for @ $600.  Shortly after I got mine, he started stocking the $600 2820's in leu of the discontinued 27XXs.

HTH,

Tim

It really isn't that bad, considering the gps was just released in May of 09.

You gotta watch those boys at gpsdiscount. They claim that the retail for the 660 is $1200 and they are doing you the HUGE favor of selling for $799 WOW!!!

Now check out the Garmin website. The price has not changed since it was released. I DO find it interesting that the 550 is now $100 more than the 660, though.
