Posts: 97 Brighton, Colorado | Great video Bob. A little story. Back in the middle 60's, the University of Colorado Medical Center had a high altitude experiment center at the very top of Mt. Evans. They had college students who would stay up there the whole summer. The doctors and nurses would put them on stationary bikes and do all sorts of tests, trying to find out how the altitude would affect them. In addition, they had veteranarians up there, along with about a dozen cows and calves. They evaluated the cattle up there to determine high altitude affects etc. All quite sophisticated. It was my job to drive up there EVERY DAY (in my jeep) and take blood samples from the cows and calves and then bring those samples back down to Denver so they could examine the blood. I was about 15 or 16 at the time. Anyway, I drew the blood from a calf (right at the side of the neck). As soon as I drew the blood (had to get 2 viles), the calf collapsed. The doctors thought the calf was dead, so we wrapped it up in a plastic sheet and put it in the back of the jeep. I headed back down the mountain and back to the medical center. As soon as we got into town, the calf started kickin' and bawlin' just as I pulled up to the hospital. Unfortunately, the poor guy didn't make it. All in the name of science. There used to be a restaurant up there and you could get sandwiches and pop. It burned down a few years later. (couldn't get the firetrucks up the steep hill in time).
It was fun to see the sites you had on your video. Brought back lots of memories. Some good, some not so good. (watched a guy burn up his brakes going back down the hill.
