| With their radio locking out? Mine has bee locking out occasionally on start since I bought the bike. Recently it has become more frequent. Victory is still resisting the replacement of my radio even though it has been broke since I bought the bike but thats another story, and this is an "info you" post if you are having the lockout issue.
Victory does have this issue in the works. From the sounds of it there will be a download available soon, but not yet (I'm assuming it is a download). Victory said that everything goes through what they called the HUB. The headlite, computer, radio everything when you hit the key to on. The problem is there are too many folks at the door so to speak so the system locks out the least important, which would be the radio.
I take it several folks are having this issue since Victory has been working this and is releasing this soon (approx 3 weeks or so I'm told), so just a heads up to watch for the bulletin. I'll post if I hear something first. |

| I've had the problem, too. Also had issues when the speedo / tach gear indicator went dead. |

| Mine is a 2008 but nothing changed between 08 & 09 with respect to this issue. If you are NOT having an issue with this ignore the post, this was just an "info you" for folks who are/have been. Seems there is no rhymn nor reason to who has an issue and who doesn't, lol... |

Posts: 215 orrick, mo | I've had the same issue with my radio locking out (09) but it only has happened if I turn the key and immediately try to start the bike. If I wait for everything to load I have no problems. I have only had my bike for a month so that could change though. |

| Mine has been playing musical lights a little but I tink it is more oil related than anyting else. I never pay it much mind anyhow and go by the sound of the engine... |

| Ok so Victory's recommendation to shut off the radio before shutting the bike off and then turning it on after its running kinda backfired. Today I turned the bike on and turned on the radio after as per their instructions. Radio came on but no display. I could turn the radio on and off all day with no display reappearing. So the suggestion that mine is locking up due to this high demand just went out the window. Stopped at the dealer to show them and the service manager said he'd get an message off to Victory.
16 months of continuous radio problems (8 reported trips in for troubleshooting and/or repair) of one sort or another. So they will be replacing this radio whether they know it or not... |

Posts: 1324 So Cal | After 14 months my radio took a crap. It played great, display was in piglatin. Took three trips to the dealer but finally got a replacement. It works great. Although my ipod took a dump and I havent tried that part yet, the rest works the way its supposed to. Im affraid to find out what software is in it, dont want to break anything. I think victory knows about these issues, I have a feeling the supplier is giving them the same runaround we get from victory. Cant say for sure though. |

There is a cure for the gear indicator issue. There is a bolt inside the primary cover that is to be changed. Of course i am assuming you are riding a 2008 model. As for shutting the radio down prior to killing the bike and or not turning the radio on till after you start the bike, thats crap. I admit i have had a radio lock up twice that i can remember in the last year. Come August 8th i will have had my 08 Vision for one year and 15,000 miles. ( I dont get much chance to ride since i only live 3 miles from the shop.) I always just turn the key and hit the start button as soon as the fuel pump stops. That means the radio powers up when i turn on the key and power is interrupted when i hit the starter switch and the radio has to reboot again. I have only had one irritating electrical ghost that last a day but that was turn signal related, nothing for this thread. Wish some dealers would just get it right and get things changed out when the problem is as chronic. And chronic to me would have been about the 5th unexplained time within a 6 month period. |

I'm lazy but I did try to find the post with bolt thingy issue. What size is the bolt, is there anything else to replace besides the bolt and the cover gasket?
Mines gear indicator has been acting wierd by saying 2 when it is actually in 1 or 3 when it is in 2. But the 4, 5 and 6 are okay. It started when I changed the oil back to vickie blend, but I ain't saying it is it. When I change the oil next time I want to remedy this problem. If I don't change the bolt, what will happen? |

Posts: 404 San Antonio, TX United States | You have to order the bolt from Victory. The bolt is part of the circuit that defines the resistance reading. The indicator is only taking its que from a preset resitance value. Some of the early run bolts would change their value over time due to heat and age. There was a change in composition and if i remember correctly a coating on the bolt. Out of all the Visions i have serviced in the east coast area of Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks of NC i have ony had to do one bike in the last year and a half. If you dont change the bolt, nothing will happen..The bolt retains the star gear on the shift drum. If you just lay the bike on the right side tip over protection you can take the primary off with out having to drain the oil. I would highly suggest having another primary gasket on hand. I always put a new gasket in if i take the primary off unless it is only a few hours old from where i did service and for some reason i have to go back in to check something. Feel free to ask anything i may have not covered or you may not be clear on. |

| Dave, thanks for the input on the radio. My dealer did order a radio a couple months back and Victory canx it. Said the dealer should troubleshoot the radio and replace just the part of the radio that was broke. Of course they couldn't duplicate the burned up Ipod, and it wouldn't lock on demand. It really has been frustrating but it isn't the dealership on this one.
Thanks for the info on the bolt as well. I've got a bunch of little issues I've been riding with like the gear lite, bent fill neck, radio issues. I guess I should probably get some of them fixed...... |
