Hi

Has anyone found a way to listen to music through your helmet without spending $900 on the Vision CB/intercom system. It seems rediculous to spend that kind of money when I have no use for the CB and rarely have a passenger on my Tour.

I grew up with the Beach Boys and my neighbor has a 500 hp Chevelle in his garage. I still don't get the point of the Stage I, Stage II, Lloydz products. We still have speed limits in Wisconsin.

Any thoughts.

Bob

Um, turn up the volume? Ive upgraded the front speakers and antenna on mine and it sounds great. I have a modular helmet and i ride with the visor up. I dont like the idea of the helmet speakers because they are too distracting, and i want to make sure i hear a car horn or an ambulance coming. JMO

I have looked for exactly what you are talking about since I bought my Vision. Nothing I've run across will do the job and I have not found anyone who is willing to try to tap a Motocomm or similar unit into the Vision sound system. I'd even buy the CB if I could somehow use my Bluetooth headset with it instead of the wired headsets. I absolutely HATE being leashed to my bike. (Frankly, and beside the point... I'm amazed such a technological achievement as this bike did not some with Bluetooth stock, I'm stunned it is not even an option)

90% of the time, I am happy with the stereo.

The rest of the time, I abandon the Vision system altogether. I use a Camos BHS600 bluetooth headset. I made sure my MP3 player had bluetooth. When I feel like not sharing my tunes with the neighborhood, I use that system.

For long (10hour+ trips, the Camos and MP3 player will need a charge. I have the weird vision power outlet to cigarette lighter style power outlet adapter thingy. If I stop for an hour or so, I will hook up chargers for the headset and MP3 player to get a few more miles out of them.

Some of us like to get to the speed limit as quickly as we can.

Check into Cardosystems.com. Their Scala Rider Head sets with wireless capabilities are top of the line. I have the Q2 multiset. Can communicate with 2 other people, has bluetooth, equipped
with an FM receiver and can be connected with an MP3. This multiset can be had online for around
$200. Check also for single units if that is all one wants, for less money.

+1 Scala Q2. Has blutooth and can be linkes to a Garmin 2820 and you can tie your cell phone
to the 2820 and use it with the Q2. Great set up. My 2 cents. Mike

Personally, I didn't buy it for the "performance", but because I wanted to have a little
more volume and tone out of my exhaust. I went with S1L2 and it's a little better. I'm
really hoping that after enough carbon builds up and the packing gets broken down that
it start to sound better... So far, it's gotten louder since I had them first put on...

As far as the stereo... The biggest probelm is the speakers suck!! I either wear a half-
helmet (when I HAVE to) or no helmet and the sepakers will due for now.

Unless I am just putzing around town I don,t even listen to the radio.I generaly ride two up as my co-pilot rides with me.If I stay under 65 MPH or so I can hear the radio fine.(And I have some BAD artillery ears).
AND, Like cubford I want to hear an Ambulance or firetruck.Plus, on the highway at speed I like to listen to the nice rumble of the stage1/level1 sounds.

Every so often when I ride into work in the morning(usually around 5am) the sun is just coming over the mountains and I'll light up the Ipod. If I hadn't upgraded the speakers like Clubford, I wouldn't even consider it. But the right tune, the right temperature, and the scenery of driving down the hill looking over the Strip is pretty damned awesome. It almost makes up for driving home in 110+ temps..

Thanks everyone. I have learned so much by reading all of the posts on this site. I had forgotten about the Scala Rider systems. I'm hearing that the quality is very good and the installation is pretty simple. I just bought a brand new N102 N-Com helmet. To buy two sets of speakers and microphones, two N-Com Bluetooth boxs and multimedia cord would cost about $750. The Scala Rider bluetooth system also has the FM radio. I just found the multiset for $265. If the quality is really there it seems like a no brainer.

Also what ways have you found for storing the iPod and cell phone while you are riding?

Thanks.

Really?!? I'll be damned. I wonder how the legislature justifies that coming out of one side of their mouth while pushing people to use headsets while on the phone in their cages out the other side? I just moved to NC from PA a couple years ago and I got my license down here, so I never paid much attention to PA motorcycle law.

I took a bike trip to Johnstown last year and listened to tunes in my helmet the entire way. Perhaps I should turn myself in to the Keystone Kops for "Accesorizing my jamming, after the fact"

Try here:

http://www.vision-riders.com/bb/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=1595&pos...

I didn't do this yet. I'm trying to come up with another solution.. but I guess some are very happy with it. Having been a HAM operator myself, I am unhappy with amplified antennae. I'm considering jinxing the lines of the Vision and installing a whip antenna on the trunk. We'll have to see.

Speed limits are for girls.

As for sound, I use these, connected to my iPod: http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er6i.aspx

Not for everybody, but I always ride with earplugs anyway.

You're going to be waiting a long time. The S1/L2 exhaust doesn't have any packing. It's a tube with slots cut in it.

Rebel,

I have been wondering.....Could I build a sleeve out of something tough like steel or stainless steel that has a pattern of holes that line up with the holes in the baffles. If I either turn the sleeve or move it.....front to back it would cover the holes in the baffles. This would make it adjustable for sound output.

Would this be possible?

That would be possible with some creative designing and a good fabricator. The problem would arise in tuning. When you change any one aspect of the air/fuel/exhaust relationship, you have to adjust (tune) the other two accordingly. I don't know how much such a setup would change things; it would take some extensive trial and error experimentation to figure out how to run such a system successfuly. With a fuel tuner though, it might be possible to get it set up to run OK. At any rate I have to say that an "on-the-fly" exhaust tunable for sound level is an ingenious idea.

I'm just going by what I was told at the dealership. I was hoping it to start to sound like when I went from stock whisper to stage 1 on my Kingpin...
