Posts: 432 Gettysburg, 2008 Tour Premium | I rode today with my son-in-law and when we got home he took the Vision out for a ride. When he got back the radio was playing and when he stopped in front of the house to set up to negotiate the gravel drive to the garage, he stopped kinda quickly, I heard the radio die but the windshield, turn signals and horn and gauges are also kaput. My GPS was in the saddlebag and possibly the GPS cable that was hanging down made contact and shorted out popping the 'gauge' fuse. The thing is every other fuse is good. I am not sure how to check relays but assume they should be ok. He said replace the blown fuse and everything may be ok and I suspect that may be but is not how thing are supposed to work. Any ideas?

I gritted my teeth and put the spare fuse in the gauge fuse slot even though it is a higher rating and just briefly seems to work. Off the parts store. I guess the engineers wanted you to have gauges. Is there a wiring diagram in the online manual? I would be interested how this wires up and if any relay's are common the the gauge ground or positive circuit.

Posts: 208 Wichita, Kansas | Interesting. I kind of shot from the hip on that one and got it wrong. The instrumentation fuse feeds a line through the ignition switch that is used to activate the relays that allow control of each of the things you lost power to, as well as the instruments. I learned, again, to take it slow and don't do anything complicated after 8:00 PM. Thanks for posting that. Once again I see how sophisticated the design of the Vision is.

Thanks for figuring this out. So a blown 5 amp instrumentation fuse can turn the Vision into a brick. I guess I will buy some more spare fuses.

Thanks for the follow up. I would still be very troubling if I had those issues miles from home and did not read your post.
Thanks again. |
