Posts: 320 Savannah, GA -Year round riding!! Yay! | Have y'all read in your owner's manual that they recommend changing the oil every 2,500 miles and fork oil every 15,000?! It this just CYOA or overkill to grease the dealers pockets? I plan on putting Amsoil in for my first oil change (tomorrow) and every one there after. Being my first Victory, is this the standard for all models of Victory or just the Vision?

Posts: 293 Arkansas | I think Victory has the shortest change interval of all mfg.
You hve plenty of experience with other bikes; just go with
the Amsoil or Mobil 1 or Belray and a "normal" interval and
all should be well. I believe Victory's rationale has to do with
the wet sump and the attendant stresses r/t that.
Btw, I once rode a bicycle from Savannah to Tybee, met a girl at
Fort Pulaski. Should have kept that one but I didn't. Oh,well, I digress...
Enjoy your ViVi.

Posts: 223 Valdosta, GA | The only oil I've had in a Victory that seemed to "last" beyond 2500 miles was the Amsoil. I changed it out at 3000-4000 miles.
As for the fork oil...I think that depends on the oil used. I had 19,000 on my Jackpot when I traded her in and she really needed a for oil change. I've known others to run 25,000+ without a fork oil change. As with anything, I think it depends on how you ride...

Oh,well, I digress... Enjoy your ViVi. Should've kept which, the girl or the bike? Glad to hear that I'm not the only one who thinks this is a short interval... My hubby has 5,000 miles on his VTX and has had his fork oil changed twice.... because he keeps blowing out the seals in potholes!!! *Knock wood* I don't plan on changing mine that often!!! (I have 5,000 miles on my vTX and still the factory oil, btw!!!)

| Trixie,
The 2500 mile oil change is just the recommended interval, as for the Amsoil i would wait till about 5000 miles. Since its a full synthetic, the engine wont break in as well with all the lubrication of Amsoil. Now after 5 K miles it would be fine. just FYI

Posts: 320 Savannah, GA -Year round riding!! Yay! | *Doh!* My hubby jumped on it and changed my oil at 600 miles to Amsoil, because we had a ride to Macon. So, what should I be looking out for???

Posts: 266 Stockton, Ca. | For warranty sake I'll stick to the 2,500 at least until it expires. After that the Amsoil sounds like a good bet. Victory sells an oil change kit for about $60.00 with everything you need to do it yourself. I'll take that route for the 2,500 and let the dealer do the 5,000. At least there is some savings there and it keeps the warranty gods happy. They can do a complete safety inspection at the 5,000 for me. |
