Posts: 297 VA | Hey, has anyone else had the rear air shock leak? About 203 weeks ago the wife complained about getting jarred on the bumps. Hadn't touched the air shock since it was filled when I bought it. Well, no air. Figured it was just a slow leak. Pumped it to 50 psi, not near the limit. I only got to ride one day, so it was sitting for most of that time. I put the pump back on tonight, completely empty again. Anyone else had this problem? If so, what was wrong? Thanks.

Well, I think mine is loosing a little air lately, I keep tabs on mine more oftener. when I run 2 up it is at least 65psi and for me around 35psi. The other evening I put in the 65psi to go riding 2up. The next morning it was like around 55psi, but I'll say it was cooler so less pressure anyway.
The shock system is simple, valve, hose, bladder. I've not taken a closer look but I wonder how secure the hose is, so you might want to check that. Also, check with some spit or soapy water the valve for a leak. Okay, no spit. If it ain't those two, then it would have to be the bladder in the shock, and I'm not sure what it would take to replace the shock yet.

Posts: 297 VA | It appears that it only leaks ait after I ride, especially two up. Just sitting in my garage, it leaked maybe 2-3psi over a little over a week. However, when I rode it, then checked it the day after, it has lost almost 60psi after about 1-1/2 weeks. Taking it to the dealer this week, see if they can figure out what's wrong. |

Posts: 3773 Pittsburgh, PA | i filled mine to 60lbs using the HD air pump, today i checked (one day later) and it was at 35-37lbs.. are they made to HOLD air? or is the reason you buy a pump is to keep adding some ? i never had a air shock before |

Posts: 174 Edmonton, AB | This question is for Arkainzeye but may also apply to others.....What are you using to check the pressure in your shock? Are you using the gauge on the hand pump or something else?
Using the gauge on the victory hand pump will casue a significant drop in pressure every time it is connected. I found this out when I first got the bike. Everytime I hooked up the Victory pump I found that the pressure would drop about 10-15PSI. I thought I had a problem but then I realized that the drop in pressure was the result of the dial type pressue gauge on the pump, not the shock. I think this is because the volume of air in the shock is relatively small and it takes a lot more air to "fill" the dial gauge in the Victory pump, as well as the hose that connects the dial gauge to the valve on the bike, then it does a small air pressure gauge. So everytime I hooked up the pump to check the pressure there was a significant drop in pressure that resulted from the volume of air that it took from the shock to pressurize the gauge on the pump. Once I started using a small digital gauge to check the air pressure in the shock I noticed little or no loss in pressure.
This may or may not be part of the reason for some peoples loss of air pressure....I just thought I would toss it out there for discussion.
Hope this helps.

I find that interesting....I use the Victory pump/air gauge and every time I check the pressure in the shock it is always holding 22psi, which is where I run it when I ride solo.

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | The book also says there is a loss of pressure, 3 to 4 psi each time you remove the pump, so I run it up just a little above what I want for this reason. |

Posts: 3773 Pittsburgh, PA | i didnt use any air pump on my vision at all for 13 months. but recently i started to ride a passenger and i knew it needed air.. the very first time i check it, the shock had 12lbs. so i pumped it up too 60Lbs with a HD pump i bought from my local dealer. (high prices but IN STOCK). so i pumped it and the next day i just thought i would check it and it was arounf 37Lbs. that was after a ton of riding on bumping roads etc... and 2 up. |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | you've got a leak somewhere. I put in 60psi weekend before last, and went riding two up on a nice ride. I didn't let the air out to ride single and this past weekend we went riding again, so I check the air, and it was still at the 60psi that I had put it at, well maybe 59 from the air being lost for checking it. |

| Might be unrelated, but I had a Fox air shock on my mountain bike, and had to use the pump maybe 3x over 5 years... |

| Yep mine has started leaking down as well. Use to hold perfectly (and they should stay filled) but recently I've had to add air anytime I plan to ride 2 up. I'll get it in to the dealer when I have some down time from riding. |

Posts: 297 VA | I am using the dial on the air pump, however, I thought of this and tested it by filling it, then taking it off, then putting it back on. It loses maybe 1-2 psi each time. I was seeing 20-30psi lost between filling, then riding. I did a 1-1/2 ride with the wife, and filled it just before, then checked it after, it had gone down over 30psi. Taking it to the dealer this week. He's going to look over and hopefully figure out what is leaking. I was skeptical of buying the extended warranty, but it might pay for itself yet. I'll let everyone know what I find out.

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | with 48k on the bike and two years of daily riding, so far my shock has shown no issues. It is a very simple deal, just a casing with a bladder, hose and valve. Hopefully, the ones with leakage is getting it replaced under warranty. I guess this would be a reminder to the casual forum reader to double check theirs just to be sure. |
