Posts: 208 Wichita, Kansas | I bought a genuine Victory oil temp dipstick a few weeks back to watch my temps in city traffic. Nice chrome body with black probe. Pretty. Works great Checked the oil before I left this morning, and all was well. Made a 200 mile ride today and love it, as usual. Let it cool, then checked the oil a little while ago and the dipstick has some chrome patches on it. Closer examination showed that the rod was painted, that's right -PAINTED- and some of it had flaked off. The remaining paint can be scraped off. Advice - check yours and scrape off the paint on the temp rod before the paint contaminates your oil, with unknown results. Yes, it's probably powder coated, not painted, but it will still flake into the oil

This scared the hell out of me. SO, I immediately went out to my bike after riding about 200 miles today and pulled my dipstick. I had ZERO flaking as you mentioned on yours. As a matter of fact, I took it to the sink and used a de-greaser and cleaned the hell out of it. I inspected it and found zero problems like you mentioned.
Yes, it is painted and I have been running this thing for over 3k miles and no problems. I would HIGHLY suggest taking this thing back to the dealer and either A. asking for another one or B. getting a refund and moving on.
I love mine and would not trade it. The other thing you could do is just remove all of the paint and replace it. But that wouldn't take care of the dealer knowing that there is a problem.
I hope you get through this with no internal problems! |
