I thought I'd seen this discussed before but I can't find it with a search.

When I got my new bike home on 5/2 I noticed the left rear bag did not appear fully closed (I can see the clips).  I mentioned it to my friend who has an '08 and works at the dealer part time and he said it was a known problem.

The bike had it's 500 mile service two weeks ago (now it's got 1200) and the dealer did something to tighten it up but after another ride it was loose again.  It wouldn't bother me so much but I get a "clunk" noise on bumpy roads that sounds as though it's coming from the left rear.  The only things I've got in that bag are a rain jacket and towel. I've also noticed the front points on both bags have a pretty big gap between the points and the seat but I assume they can't make them flush or they might cut into the leather.

Anyone else w/this problem? Any resolution?

Mine has a large gap. I had the dealer looked at it and he thinks my front hinge is bent. Ordering me a new one under warranty. It's been like that for almost a year and stopped bothering me a long time ago, however there was no noises to keep reminding me.

There is a simple fix on the link stated above, all it took for me was a 3 minute dremel tool and it was perfect.

The key sign if the fix above will help you is to look for the signs of a hinge bind on the left rear hinge. Look at the video and you can see the issue.

I looked at some brand new '09s on the floor at the dealer and they had the issue. I think that every Vision made to date can use this fix.

Hi

I also has the left saddlebag issue. I took the bag off, anf put it on again, tird to move adjust the hinges by the bolts that hold them, loosening up some in every combination, no help. then I tested the rear screws that stick up to see if they rub or bind, but they do not make contact with the plastic when closed. I put a pice of clay on the tip of the bolt and closed the door. if it rubbed or made contact, the soft clay would have been transfered to the plastic, or at least the shape of the clay at the tip would have flatened out.

So I am stuck. The misalignment on that left side is disturbing and I think the door is binding in some manner. I just dont know what my next move is. The dealer has the same issue with other bikes, but at this point, is just trying to adjust the bolts to make it less noticable.

any other ideas?

Please post some pictures that show the alignment issue. Maybe the hinge is bent?

shyster, a thought to your clunk, double check everything is tight because even in the misalignment there should be the clunk noise. My guess would make the exhaust pipe is tight at the hangers. Just a thought.

I left my gap alone.

That way, in 20 years at some bike show I'm gonna hear. . .

"Crap! Look at this one! It even has the original left saddlebag gap. Talk about stock. Wish I had the money for one of those. And look - the dimple too!"

I missed having the dimple by just a few weeks!!!!! Sparks was made in late December 2007 and they fixed the dimple mid November 2007.

I guess I could get some really good pictures of the dimple and recreate it on my right saddlebag just to have a collectors dream!

In twenty-five years I will hear, "Looky great gramps! It is just like the one you had in that old picture." I am sure I will just sit there in my scooter with a tear in my eye.

Damn, I gotta take better care of myself.

I have the large gap between the seat and saddlebag on the left front where the right has no gap at the seat. I did notch the left as per the video for the rear left saddlebag clearance issue. I guess our bikes are the difference between mass production alignment and special addition alignment as seen on the Ness models which are perfect. Transportation is all I'm gonna say, lol

The 09 Ness Vision that Victory makes, is made in Spirit Lake on the same line as the other Visions and Victory motorcycles. I don't believe they get any special treatment...but they may. There maybe a custom made Ness Vision that has better bag fit up.

It is common to have the right bag tight against the seat and the left one not. It is also common to have a larger gap on the bottom right corner of the right bag. I took the left bag and the front bracket off of the left bag. I had over 6 washers fall out. I also took the rubber seal off the inside and put the bag back on. It fits much better, and most of the gap is gone. There are several issues with bag alignments. Binding in the front and rear hinges. The hinges hitting the inside before the bag closes, washers in the wrong place, and the weather stripping being too thick to allow the bag to close. My best advice is to wait till it's too cold to ride and try different combo's to fix the problem.
