| I'm a newbie and got my new ride last Saturday (Premium Touring). It's only got 200 miles on it and still breaking in. I'm reviewing the owners manual and came across the section about how to check your oil. Followed the instructions and found out that oil level is below the "add" oil line. So, I'm concerned. I'm guessing that I need to add a quart?
The manual clearly states to "use only VICTORY brand Semi-synthetic 20w40 Motor Oil or equivalent oil for use with wet clutches such as JASO MA rating." The nearest victory dealer is 65 miles away, so I'm very reluctant to just jump in the car and drive all that way for a quart of oil.
I wanted to ride my bike today, but now very reluctant to do so. So, what substitutes are readily available? All the bike dealers in Northern VA are closed today. So can I buy any branded "equivalent" oil that other bikes use? I'm guessing that anything that conforms to JASO MA and is 20w40 will work?. I just went to Walmart and they have nothing with 20w40 viscosity.
Any help would be great!
Thanks , Vince.

Really, just use a motorcyle oil for the moment to get you to where you need to go, and then change it completly with what you are going to us and recommended by your dealer. Better yet, if you can wait, don't ride it, and I'll bring you a quart or a case later in the week, seriously. BUT WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T START ANOTHER OIL THREAD. |

Posts: 115 Columbus, Ga | Question for those in the know. Is the oil in that first comes in the bike breakin oil or the regular vic 20-40 semi syn? I would also call my dealer and have them send a quart of oil for next day delivery as it should have already been in the bike. |

Make sure the bike is on a level surface and stood straight up. The dip stick must be screwed all the way in and then removed for the correct reading. Once again I'm not trying to insult you but some engines require that you don't screw it in............. |

I cant vouch for its efficacy in a wet clutch motorcycle but Castor Bean oil smells the best!
Need any proof or want to argue about it, Costa Mesa Speedway - Harley Night May 30th OC Fair Grounds 6:00PM I'll be there!

Not only can you have a house or "a bike" that smells like oranges but you have a product that will also degrease, lubricate, and strip the paint off of anything, (of course it is the amount of concentration that determines its usage)… |

Would not put full synth oil in my bike under any circumstances, but what would I know. I have just been a professional mechanic all my adult life, and a Vic mechanic for half of their life.
Don't worry......This will be my last post on the subject |

It's one of those things that if it is low, it clacking, if it clacking, check to see how much you need to put in to get you home. Check to see where it is leaking and fix the leak. If it burning the oil, get thicker oil. I've run this filosofee in all my vehicles. Change the oil regularly, and check for leaks. No leak, no usey oil. If smoking, go to a thicker oil and keep one or two in the vehicle. Anyway, just take of your bikes and pay no attention to the man from Virginia (I'm referring to Paradox, not me....)

Ok I've had a few days to think about this and I have concluded that the "orange oil phenomenon" is simply great marketing by the Florida Orange Juice Lobby. I'm sure if i dig deep enough i'll find Anita Bryant fingerprints somewhere.
You guys in the "Sunshine State" have a lot of what can only be termed industrial waste laying around looking for a new home. Cant send it to Louisiana post-Katrina since all the holding ponds are gone. You have a water table six inches below the surface and more people (mostly older "yankees") moving into the state every day. You can only sell so much to Bed Bath and Beyond before the girls get tired of it and want "springtime cotton" or some Asian inspired aromatherapy.Something has to give.
Solution "Orange OIL! It can do anything!"
I can see the meeting now!
"Great idea Herb w'ell get the Kaboom Guy to sell it on TV!"
"Yeah then we'll tell people that it's an "Environmentally Safe Termite Control" and a great furniture polish; why, You can even wash your hands in it!"
"We're gonna crush those damn lemon growers!"
"Hey Herb do you think we can find a doctor who'll tell folks it a cure for E.D or a great weight loss program or something?"
"Yeah there's an institute right down the road that will say anything for a "consideration" I forget the name, but Perkins will get handle that."
So while I applaud the marketing, I guess what i'm saying is that there are only so many sources of orange odor I'm willing to put up with. If my motorcycle starts to smell just like my breakfast drink, my granddaughters babysitter, my furniture polish, my hand cleaner, my termite treatment and my floor polish then I'm going to have to find another mode of transportation.
I'll stick with the beans thank you.
