I am currently riding a GW, and I have a vision rented on 5/8 @arizona Victory. Anyone have any comments on what to expect. I test rode one for a few miles and felt the exhuast felt really hot on the leg. Thanks for any tips on the ride.

What your doing is a good way to try out a Vision as you should be able to rack up a lot of miles. That's what you have to do to make a comparison to the GW. As with the GW there are air deflectors for moving air around the rider to control heat or wind. I rode 600 miles on Tuesday in 9 hours in temperatures from 58 to 89, with high cross winds, with some rain, no problem. The GW is a fine motorcycle, so is the Vision, I like the Vision. Good luck on your ride, let us know what you think.

See if your rental Vision has the lower wind deflectors installed.  They really make a huge difference on the heat.

The Goldwing is a great bike so it will probably boil down to how much attention you want compared to every other bike around you.

Put a lot of time getting a feel for your dealer.  If they are a good one you will love your bike, no matter what issues crop up.  If they have a lousy reputation or you get a bad gut feeling it will tarnish your perception of the bike and the little issues will feel like a major hassle.

Good luck!

I live in the Phoenix area. Do you have a ride or route planned. Be more than happy to suggest a ride or two depending on your time on the road. Let me know.

Funny... I sell GoldWings for a living, but ride a Vision.

Having been riding both for some time now, I can tell you this:

1) The 'Wing is faster.
2) The Vision is more comfortable, and roomier.
3) The Vision handles better overall (or so I say... ).
4) The Vision draws a crowd, the 'Wing is invisible when parked next to my Vision.
5) There is more aftermarket stuff for the 'Wing.
6) The Vision sounds like a motorcycle.
7) Both seem to last forever. Both are extremely well made bikes.
8 ) Performance mods cost less for the Vision than the 'Wing.
9) Real Vic floorboards spoil you, not those silly little Kuryakyn ones for the 'Wing.
10) Once you have an electric adjustable windshield, you can't do without.
11) The Vision has sole, no other way to describe it. V-Twin owners understand.

So, from a newbie to the touring bike class I can tell you that I was seriously considering a GW. In fact, I could have purchased one for less money than what I spent on the Vision. As I sat on the GW and took it on and off the stand and positioned my feet on the pegs I found it very uncomfortable and hard to manuver in the simple act of getting it upright. Something you do several times on any ride. Having no previous bias I felt the GW was a beatifully engineered machine and had lots of great accessories but was uncomfotable from the get go. The Vision was much more spacious and comes off the stand like a bike half it's size and weight. I have room to move my feet and they rest very nicely on the broad floorboard.

The other thing that is intangible but delightful is the curb appeal of the bike. I had 5 young girls actually run accross a parking lot while I was at a stop sign to tell me how cool my bike was. They called it a Future Bike. I have had guys slow down on the freeway and give me thumbs up and don't even get me started on how long it takes to answer all the questions at the gas station while filling up. This has all happened in my first 2 weeks of ownership as I only have 500 miles on the bike. So, I guess if you want a little grin factor in your life, the Vision will deliver.

I have to third what buddahead said plus these bike really do have soul. I have a wing and the vision, the Vision much more fun to ride. As for the heat...... IF I wear my chaps or leather pants I don't feel that much heat, but if I wear only jeans I do feel the heat. I all most always wear chaps or leather over pants , no heat.

I ride with these... black Cordura with mesh backs, Kevlar inner panels, stirrup loops. These attach to your belt w/velcro flaps.

What heat?

Funny, Buddahead mentions the Vision having a soul. That is what really drew me to it. The bike has personality. Rode on the 'wing, but rode the Vision. You can feel it talk to you when you ride (maybe it's time to take my meds)

I looked at the Wing before buying my Vision too. It seems that the Wing is a nicely engineered piece of equipment, but, yes, the Vision has SOUL. Comming from a Harley background, this makes a big difference to me. Also, comming from Harley background, I do not notice any unusual heat from the Vision, but I do notice more torque and power than I ever found on a Harley. Don't get me wrong, I still love Harleys
